@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries , if you're going to cover this franchise, then, even though it's an unofficial game, you should check out Streets of Rage Remake, which was the main fan game that got the fire lit under Sega's a s s to make Streets of Rage 4/Bare Knuckle IV, with the help of Streets of Rage X, Streets of Rage 2X, and Streets of Rage XXX, all of which are ironically longer games than Streets of Rage 4/Bare Knuckle IV. Honestly, with all of those titles, you have essentially a more complicated version of the Metroid II: Return of Samus/AM2R/Metroid: Samus Returns fiasco, namely, instead of one okay game, and two incomplete, but pretty good, remakes/remixes, you have a pretty good official product and four equally good fan projects. Honestly, if Sega had not been such a s s h o l e s , and they had handled the project like they did with Sonic Mania, and how they actually welcomed the fan game that would eventually become the Freedom Planet franchise. I am honestly convinced that Sega has multiple personality disorder/schizophrenia, instead of outright selfishness and hypocrisy, like Nintendo. However, I am still sore about Ken Penders, Archie Comics, Fleetway Comics, Sega, and other artists all arguing over such things, and, for all of the arguing parties of that one...(I begin to play Jim Johnson's "Protection", a.k.a., the old A.P.A./last Ron Simmons theme, and the screams of people in states of t e r r o r that were arguing are heard, instead of the arguing). Yeah, they all should be glad that I didn't handle these arguments. Finally, as for the Fighting Force thing, there actually a sequel to that game, namely, it is called Fighting Force 2, but it is a way worse game, you can only play as Hawk, everyone else from the previous game died, and it is only available for the PS2 and PC, as far as I know. Also, as far as I know, it was also around the time when Sega and Core parted ways that Sega decided to just do the Die Hard Arcade/Dynamite Detective and Dynamite Cop/Dynamite Detective 2 games in response. The first game was released for arcades, as well as for the Sega Saturn, Sony PS2, and the PlayStation Network, while its spiritual sequel was released for only the arcade and for the Sega Dreamcast.

@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries , Streets of Rage Remake also has a lot of quality of life improvements, among them, being able to perform combos, as well as for the characters to run, even the characters that were not in Streets of Rage 3/Bare Knuckle III, which was the only game of the old Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle Trilogy to allow running for its characters. Moreover, there is also a much deeper combo system that is said to be one of the deepest that is in a beat-em-up/side-scrolling brawler/conveyor belt fighter game, like on par with Double Dragon Advance and A Night Where Good Things Are Bound to Happen levels of depth. Such quality of life improvements were also more or less added to Streets of Rage 4/Bare Knuckle IV as well. However, unlike Streets of Rage 4/Bare Knuckle IV, in Streets of Rage Remake, each character has their own Summon Special, as well as Ultimate Attack as well. Streets of Rage X, Streets of Rage 2X, and Streets of Rage XXX all do not have such things.

I just finally got to play 4 this past month because it’s a free monthly game for PS Plus. I’ve had so much fun with it. Teaming up with a rando and running through the levels is amazing. The combos, graphics, and music is 👌🏼. I love that you can unlock the 16 bit characters and discover some of the 16 bit levels by the arcade machines.

Really, really diggin' that shirt, Patman! The 60s Batman TV show is quite possibly my all-time favorite TV show. Much, much love for Streets Of Rage. The Super Nintendo vs Sega Genesis War was absolutely legendary! Those of us that were gaming during that time were the real winners, ultimately. I still play both systems regularly today. I remember getting my Sega Genesis Model 2 with included 6-Pak cart for my 6th birthday in 95. I can't express my excitement for finally being able to have my own console. Obviously I played Sonic first (what 6 year old who loved the more cartoony Sonic cartoon wouldn't?), but then I started played Golden Axe, Revenge Of Shinobi, and Streets Of Rage and I fell in love. Revenge and Streets are very dear to me from the music side of things, I absolutely LOVED their soundtracks and it just felt so good beating the utter crap out of people with samurai swords, throwing stars, and metal pipes. (this is by no means to disrespect Golden Axe, because I loved it too, but it's one of those games that just feels infinitely more fun with a second player)

Patman, great coverage of an awesome game series with Streets of Rage 2 being the ultimate beat 'em up, followed by 4, 1 and then 3 I'd say. SOR 1's music is still my all time favorite soundtrack though, then 4, then 2, then 3 for soundtracks. Olivier Deriviere did a majority of the music for SOR4, some awesome tracks from him. I still have both this and my mega drive ii around. It came with the mega6 compilation (i dont know if you guys got that) which was: world cup (italia 90 clone with another name), shinobi, columns, streets of rage, sonic and super monaco 2 (also a clone of super monaco, but features a girl instead of mario andretti on the cover). Looking back, its crazy to think such era defining and great games all came with the console, and all in one cartridge.

My boring SOR story. Read a review of it in a magazine at the time, looked good so I ordered it, then went on holiday. The whole holiday I was wishing to get home so I could play the game. While on holiday I discovered final fight, fell in love with that, it was amazing. Then got home, SOR was waiting, I played it and..... Compared to final fight it was a real let down. Tiny sprites and a lot slower. Having a PAL console didn't help the speed. Then got a SNES and played final fight instead. I did love the soundtrack though and also enjoyed SOR 2 although it's still far slower than the frenetic final fight action.

I remember scouring the „warez“ landscape for an arcade version of SoR about 20 years ago. Since a lot of Sega titles originated as technologically superior versions in the arcades before hitting the Mega Drive/Genesis, I thought this applied to SoR as well. Since the internet was a primordial chaos and no one confirmed that no original arcade version exists, I was looking for much, much longer than I’m comfortable admitting today😂😂😂

Great video Patman. I very much agree in that while the first Final Fight was better then the first Streets of Rage, subsequent games had the SoR series on top in every way. SoR 2 is probably the best beat-em-up of this type of all time, nudging out FF1. Great music and great weapons top off the blistering combat. I think I need to go bust out some emulation now!
