The "Real Bout" part of the Fatal Fury series is where it really takes off. & the control system is more forgiving than the previous games.

Rather than a 'soft reboot', the Real Bout series felt more like a 'Greatest Hits' collection of the Fatal Fury saga.

Real Bout 2 will always be my favorite SNK fighting game hands down. I love all the Fatal fury real bouts.

I don't mind RBFFS/RBFF2, but my fav of the three is RBFF. Not only does it simplify the FF3 controls, but it also ends the Terry and Geese story.

My favourite is the first Real Bout as I loved the destructible stages causing potential ring outs like Virtua Fighter.

Fatal Fury is the type of game that actually benefits with more characters. Like how they did with Wild Ambition. Makes South Town more interesting.

Buying these games on release for the neo cd/cdz was a blasr. The amount of time spent playing with my little brothers was crazy. We used to play these games for hours a day. Mastering all characters etc. If I'm not mistaken, the cd version of rb2 is the first game where we got the great survival mode present in games like lb2 where power, time, and life orbs fly out of your opponent after you combo them for a certain amount of hits. Also, rbff1 was the first ff game to have really crisp controls.

Slight correction, the barriers in RBFF didn’t need people being smacked against them in order for them to be damaged. Throwing enough projectiles that miss an opponent will destroy them.

It allways love it when people bring up toshinden series because it was one of my introduction to Japanese fighting games and Japanese character design thanks to Tsukasa Kotobuki who in my opinion signifies 90s anime character design not that over used sailor moon look. Anyways real bout is when the fatal fury gotten good and one of my favorites in the fatal fury series.

Geese can come back in KoF15, because in KoF14 ending all all the villain get resurrected, thats why team Orochi, and Rugal all came back.

Fatal Fury Final Bout was bt far my favourite fighting game of the 90s. I loved the special attacks, the visuals (the Best piel art)and the speed of the combats. Arcade was King on those days, and God knows how much I played that game. I liked the fact it was so different to KOF, MK and SF.

the emulators do a whammy as the displays aren't scanned like the old CRT, post processing is just amazeballs

Personally I preferred the oversway over lanes and while I get why competitively they aren't the best the ring-outs were quite flavorful and fun.

Guys, let's just make Fatal Fury 3 fun to play, and you get Real Bout Fatal Fury. Played in the arcade first and was shocked how much more responsive it was compared to the 3. Great video.

Real Bout 2 is my most-played fighting game. I love how the Power Dunk is performed with a combo of inputs instead of a simple command like all the other games.

It is funny. Real bout is "reboot", and it was reboot. I remember the magazines at the time. The story was rebooted. And Real Bout Special is the best Fatal Fury game. Garou is "Street Fighter" SNK made game.

really love the style of the real bout series feeling like both a soft reboot with the gameplay improvements all around a best of the best" but also a new game showing the final battle between the heroes of south town vs. geese especially continuing the growing cinematic feel the series was growing from 3 with the awesome way he goes out.(with how kof is implying he's going to be a major threat again be cool if they went in a direction like real bout for him.) really love blue mary blues showing off her sweet character/miss the extras of snk like this and the drama cd's as they really showed the fun world of snk that should come back with their new direction alongside more manga/4-koma. and love to see dominated mind get a rerelease as i liked it being a farewell to a lot of the characters in original fatal fury's timeline before motw/kof & liked it's new character alfred showing the legacy of south towns defenders defeating white and the cool fmv's showing terry and friends wishing him farewell/giving him his hat(love to see him in cotw wearing terry's hat).

I just love Fatal Fury 3, for me it's the best game of the franchise after Garou, much funnier to play than any Real Bout.

I don't think Real Bout is SNK's answer to SF Alpha, especially since that game came on June, 5 '95. Real Bout was released on December '95, but the game itself feels like an improvement of Fatal Fury 3 which came out on March '95 I do believe that Real Bout Special does feel more like an answer to SF Alpha, considering SNK decided to use a more colorful and anime look for the game

@@KEN-1991 that's why I said RBS feels like an answer to SF Alpha. I think from 1995 onwards, most Japanese video games began keeping their anime/manga look intact, since it was becoming more popular worldwide. If you look at games like Street Fighter II or the first Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting, the in-game sprites looks a a weird mix between anime and American comics, I think it was due to the developers wanting to appeal to an international market. But games like Street Fighter Alpha, The King of Fighters '96, Mark of the Wolves, among others have a clear anime style. In SF Alpha's case I think it was due to Capcom's developers being very impressed by the the SFII Movie, and that also reminds me that SNK were so impressed by Nobuyuki Hiyama's voice acting as Joe Higashi in the Fatal Fury anime, that he became his official voice in Fatal Fury 3

This is probably my 2nd or 3rd(Real Bout 1 and Real Bout 2) favorite Fatal Fury game. I really liked the ring out system but, I wasn't a big fan of the team gauntlet.

Love to see that rbffs topped the charts as it's still my favorite of the series. It has the best line system in my eyes and the gameplay feels just right. I also really dug the presentation. It's nice to know other people felt put off by FF3 too. There is just something about it that just doesn't feel right to me. The stages were fantastic though.

Was the The King of Fighters 94’ always called KOF 94’? Or did SNK slap the 94 after they decided to make a sequel?

Always was mea t to be kof 94. Whe it was decided to be a 3 vs 3 fighting game. Originally it was called survivor and was a beat up playing as 3 characters.

The 1rst Fatal Fury was the 1rst King of fighters (Geese’s tournament). Later, KoF 94 was the first SNK game with 3v3 and characters from different SNK’s games (Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Psycho Soldiers etc).
