I was born in Richmond in 1968. We lived in Burnley, the affluent part of Richmond, right next to Toorak near the Yarra. I wouldn't change my childhood for anything. Us kids in the 70s & 80s always had fun, Saturday nights would be spent knick knocking and running or Spotlighting into neighbours windows, Playing with spud guns, fireworks, billy carts. In Richmond in the 1970s we regulary visited the local fish shops and played pinball or video games. We went to Burnley Primary School at Madden Grv and Yarra Boulevard. Back in the 70s was a dark time at Primary school as the Teachers/Principal still administered the strap up until around 1976. We were forced to drink plain milk from small glass bottles with foil tops. Richmond had many cultures back then, Vietnamese, Greek, Italian, Yugoslav, Hungarian, German, Maltese, Turkish, Etc. Everyone got along. Some kids would sell newspapers in the station subways after school. We're lucky to have had some famous people who were born or grew up in Richmond, Edwin Flack, James Scullin, Squizzy Taylor, Dame Nellie Melba, Helen Reddy. I'm extremely proud to be a Richmondite, even though I live in Adelaide. 🥂❤

I lived in Ross St Richmond until the house was pulled down to make way for the housing commission in the late 1960s. Went to Vaucluse in the 70s and worked after school in Bridge rd Coles after school. My parents were friends with Dan Daley who ran the pub in Church Rd. Everyone was so friendly.

I remember what Suburbs like Richmond offered to the kids , The yarra River, and merry creek were great places to grow up ,it was the time were all the Kids played in the street ,i even Remember tree huts in the street trees ,we would spend most of the day walking in the creeks and going to the Yarra River ,catching Fresh water cray fish and frogs ,it was a great time even walking to the old MCG to watch footy ,All the kids in every street new each other and friends were never lacking ,its all gone now

Exacto Windcheaters were made in Richmond and I believe the original mocassins were first sold in Richmond shoe stores too.

I reckon that photo at the 1.45 min mark was taken from the top of Richmond Town Clock Tower on Bridge Rd , and that street opposite is Lyndhurst street, which I lived in once

Anyone remember the Balls clothing store cnr of Swan & Chapel Sts where they used cable driven cannisters to move cash around the store? And the Butcher shops which had sawdust on the floors? Good times!

I lived under the Pelaco Sign opp the Picture thearter i forget the name about a block or two from Hoddle st .

I used to go to Richmond quite afew times in the mid to late 1980's...It was the go to area for me when folks didn't want to waste to much money unlike the city. There were quite nice shops there which I won't bore the en' masses here which are probably are all virtually gone now. None stuck more than Dimmys which I thought had passed on but are now semi back but in a much more smaller guise which is better nothing I guess. Not a really big fan of the current Dimmys Coles-like supermarket but oh well....

Hahaha...That town hall remains unchanged. Tiger won in 2019 not my Magpie. Still can spot few old wooden shacks or house near Calton Brewery direction. So I see for those big green canopy along the built in area at around there was planted that long time ago since then. Everything has changed as time goes by. Didn't mention how much was a piece of 1 sq.m land at that time. Too bad.

Riverside hotel was dindgy pub closed down by heath department that many times ,many dirty deed gone on that place pub left as went freeway ,,lot toughest footballers come out Richmond ,capton blood won granny first year 30 stories about Bolger Dyer feeding whole streets starving children with mezly money getting playing Richmond,,,think that says alot about people and area ,,,looking out each other like that right up till ,70s always help someone down luck ,,hat get passed around ,,that all stopped by 80s great people
