The SNES version is still my favorite. One of the best games on the system.

Loved this game in the arcade. That slow but menacing walk they had was so cool.

i was lucky enough to play this as a kid and see the wonder that it was , never payed much attention until the snes version came out, and now , many years later, playing them both on my switch, the arcade version and the snes remaster, still one of my favorite snes games of all time, and one hell of a memory, i think they other game at the time that blew me away was LASER GHOSE, that one with the 3 guns and the holograpic laser shooting on the screen, that really was impressive for the time.

Oh man! This game. I first saw this in the early 90s at the BX. I begged my dad for a quarter but he said no. I tried to describe this game to my friends, trying to describe the graphics and the screen. They all thought I was lying, so we convinced my mom to go and we scrounged all our quarters and when we got back to the BX a few weeks later the machine was gone. We still had some fun with the other games but I was so disappointed. I could never figure out the name of this game. It took 28 more years before I ran into it again. Even well into my 30s I still said YESSSSS really loud and ran to it. I finally got to play and it was still worth the wait. Thanks again for the great content and the home conversion comparisons!

I remember back in 88 when i was 12 that this arcade was so popular that it was sort of an exclusive to older tougher teenagers, meaning that us younger non metal kids could never get to play it, always some guys on it. When you got a chance it was a miracle. We played Robocop instead which the delinquants had sort of stopped playing after this one came in. Swear to God. 😆

When I first played this arcade cart it was in the Playland Arcade in NYC times Square in 1988, I had graduated from the sixth grade that day. I was amazed by that cabinet. I actually witnessed a drug bust in there that day and my dad told me to leave, I was dismayed being I was on the second level, I dreamed of playing that game again, and it was not until I went to the Eldorado Arcade at Coney Island where I got to play Darius and Ninja Warriors, this game left a huge impression on me, basically in the atmosphere, graphics and music. I am a big fan of Zunata and love their music. Years later I played the last 3 crt cabinet made by Taito which was the superior Rastan sequel Warrior Blade. There is this amazing feeling playing on that 3 screen effect that can is reduplicated, I'm sure there are long LED monitors, but it's the overall charm of a low-tech way to make something lightyears ahead of its time. I owned the Mega CD game I bought as an import and thought it was amazing, I think it even had the music video of the first stage music Daddy Mulk as one of the features. What came close to this was Taito's Thunder Fox which is an excellent game that has the atmosphere, music and graphics, and tight controls, but sadly no 3 crt cabinet, Once again Patman great video!

The two things that I remember the most about The Ninja Warriors were: 1st - The awesome background music when the game was being played, and 2nd - When I was finally able to complete the entire mission with one Quarter.

Incredible arcade game and one of my all time favorites! Lots of great memories of playing this co-op in the arcade with my brother. I remember playing it for the first time back in the day and thinking it was the most violent game I'd ever seen. Pretty tame by today's standards though, but I still don't like the part where you have to fight the dogs =(. Also, the music from the first level is THE best video game tune to come out of the 80s! I'm kinda shocked I never saw the SNES port anywhere, and I only learned that it existed a few years ago. Was the cart super rare or something? I don't recall any gaming magazines covering it either. This game was a sight to behold back in 1988, I remember my lungs and backside gasping for breath at the same time when I first saw it. Love the game on the Amiga and was totally blown away when it launched for the PS4/PS5 on PSN. I think its on the Switch too.

I remembered playing this on my SNES, I never knew it was an arcade release! I have to track one of these down sometime, sadly most of the arcades in my location only do the 2 player standard cabinets cause they can fit more of them in.

One thing I noticed when you showed the SNES version of the game as I listened to the sounds and music, and I noticed that they are almost identical to the SNES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles Tournament Fighters sounds and music...heck, I bet that the game was done by the same team of developers although made for a different company Tournament Fighters was done by Konami. If you can check it out and compare the two and see...(whispering an annoying reminder) don't forget the ALIENS arcade game LOL. Keep more vids coming my friend you are a library of nostalgia :)

I'm surprised I never heard of this one, back in the day. Looks really good. Your characters showing off more robotic endoskeleton as they take damage is a really nice touch. The Terminator approves. Ah pity there's no remastered PC version.

The SNES version had different enemies, depending if you were playing the Japanese or North American version. The Japanese version had female ninjas, which were replaced by claw ninjas in the North American version. In addition, the SNES version had an anti-piracy measure that would make the game become insanely difficult if it was triggered.

The awesome theme music was once given away on a cover tape for one of the British computer magazines - I think it was Sinclair User, but it may have been Computer and Video Games. I remember because I bought it and listened to it relentlessly.

It was obviously a hit hence the various ports - But when I speak with my friends from back in the day they all felt it was Gimmicks over Substance... Needless to say I DISAGREE! I LOVED THIS GAME! I remember vividly the first time I saw it's cabinet at an old arcade near our local Bus Station, and its size blew me away... I dropped a few coins in and I WAS HOOKED!!! I am not sure what it was that got me about the game as I was never any good at games like "Green Beret / Rush N' Attack" ... Maybe it was just that this was more simple to get into and introduced players with a reasonably hard but completable start before kicking your arse... Or maybe it was the fact that I had also not long seen THE TERMINATOR for the first time! And that Music, OH DEAR LORD THAT MUSIC... Much like your video - I will come back to that! As an Atari ST Owner, teh moment I knew the game was available - I BOUGHT IT... I was not disappointed, BUT DAMN IT WAS ARCADE HARD!!! Thank the lord for Cheat codes, Such as OPENTHEPODBAYDOORSHAL which if I recall right, Both on Atari ST and Amiga would give you infinite Shuriken. Needless to say, I NEVER Saw the Arcade Ending - But seeing it here made me LAUGH... You just have to admire Translation Errors - They give so much character! "A REVORUTION Broke out" - DAMN that got me!!! Zuntata are AMAZING! That Soundtrack is just so DAMN AWESOME that - And I kid you not - Here in 2021, DADDY MULK is actually in my Phone's Playlist whenever I go out - Right alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Led Zeppelin... Both the Arcade and Mega CD Arranged Versions... It's such and amazing soundtrack and I would LOVE to see them perform live!!! What a Game... But DAMN it robbed me blind... 30 Years on and I still hold a grudge... I wish I was in the US as I would be going to play on that Cabinet you mentioned as... ...To this day I have NEVER BEATEN THAT DAMN TANK ON LEVEL 2 WITHOUT CHEATS!!! And I have promised myself that ONE DAY, IF I EVER SEE THIS GAME IN ARCADES ONCE MORE THAT I WILL BEAT THAT DAMN TANK... NO MATTER WHAT IT COSTS!!!! I don't want to beat the entire game - I just want to prove to myself I can beat that GOD DAMN TANK AT LEAST ONCE! Ahhhhhhhhh! You can tell I have a lot of love for this game... I don't know why but alongside Gauntlet, This game is MY CHILDHOOD in the Arcades beyond doubt....

I dont know how I haven't heard of this game - it looks good. That hopping long armed character in the first game reminds me of Genan from Samurai Shodown.

Our old Aladdin's Castle in Fort Smith, AR had a unique cab with no Romstar logos only Taito logos. It was shorter monitors in a angle (kinda cabertish) all white where there was no art. Strange enough it did not stay long at that location even though it was very popular.

Wow! I've never seen these cabinets. I guess when I was a kid the arcades I had access to were too cheap to buy them.

I've heard about the arcade version of this game, but had never seen it in the wild. I played the Snes version, and felt like it was solid but really could have used a two player option. I saw the remake on the PSN a few weeks back, I kicked around pick it up. I might grab it in the not too distant future. I periodically need a new outlet to beat up.

I kept trying to remember the name of this game. I probably spent my whole summer's allowance on this game.

I remember the arcade up here in Plattsburgh had this in brand new in 88. I was mesmerized by the awesome stereo sound and the huge triple display (you could slightly see the tiny gaps between the mirrors and the center CRT, today's flat panels would make a world of difference here, but it was still cool back then. I dumped a lot of quarters into this game. In retrospect, the fact that 95% of the enemies you kill are black grunts carrying only a bayonet hasn't aged well under the current political climate I'm sure. But regardless, I still have a huge blast hooking MAME up to my projector and playing this with my SlikStik arcade controller on a 114" screen and a 250 watt stereo sound system...

There is an original working Ninja Warriors cabinet in HEY Game Center in Akihabara Tokyo as of March 2020.

I remember when this was new. I tried it out and when I got to the part where you have to kill the dogs my little brother cried.

I always liked this serie as the Super Nes version might my alltimes favourite game. But you can easily finish the game without blocking. Throwing is most important thing to master in this game. I was also lucky to play the original arcade version the last time I was in Tokyo.
