One of my favorite vids on this site is the unintentionally hilarious “[Countries] The History of Tannu Tuva” by GalacticPenguinTV in which nothing on the map happens except for Tuva changing flags while Two Steps From Hell- “Spirit of Moravia” blasts triumphantly until the country is annexed. Needless to say, I feel this vid does the topic much more justice.

Interesting facts: 1. During Qing rule, Tuva belonged to Inner Mongolia even though it was located further north in Outer Mongolia; 2. Qing Dynasty and subsequent ROC and PRC did not make any statement or sign any border treaty to abandon Tuva, Russia ( informal) occupation.

There's origin of Tuva nation: (Skythian) Dingling - Di - Dele, Tele - Dubo. Dubo was one of the big klans of Tele and there a lot of other klans of Tele, which exist in Tuva till nowadays: Saaya, Dolaan, Irgit, Khovalyg, Choodu, Soyan, Oyun. Actually Uygurs are also origined from Tele people. Later they became named as Toba and gone to the Center of Asia, Sayan-Altai Mt. with Ashina king. Then a half of this people go to war with Ancient China, won and rise the Toba Wei Empire (later Yuan Wei Empire) Around the 4-5th century Turkic people rised and mixed with Toba people. There are also a lot of ancient Turkic klans in modern Tuva: Kuular, Oorzhak, Sat, Shakyk, Kara-sal, Tulush, Then around the 13-20th century Tuva had deep contact and mixed with Mongolian people. There are Mongolian klans: Salchak, Kuzhuget, Khertek, Dongak and so forth. We have different opinions about Mongush klan. Some historic says that they are real Mongolian klan. But other says that it was formed from Gingis-haan's elite army and don't have blood relationships with Mongolians. At 16-17 all this people of Tele and Turkic side from one hand and Mongolian side from another were united into Tyva or Tuva. So we have main nation Dubo from Tele (Prototurkic united Kingdom) where had come Turkic (Post-turkic) people and Mongolian people. So Tuva has very interesting and deep history. We speak on Tuvan which is one type of Turkish language. And in this video we're showed Tofalar and Dukha. There are all also Tuvans, by separated by Russian and Qing dynasties politics

Uriankhai is not a generic name for forest peoples. "Oin Ard" is. The reason why Tuva and Uriankhai get mixed up in history is because Mongol Khans made Tuvans and many other Siberian tribes part of the Uriankhais. Uriankhais are Mongolic while Tuvans are Turkic.

Although the Turks often comprised the bulk of the Mongol army as well as the bulk of armies opposed to the Mongols, throughout the domains of the Mongol Empire there was a diffusion of military technology, which has already bee and also ethnic groups. In addition to the Mongols and Turks, other ethnicities served in the Mongol military machine and found themselves distant from home. May, T.M., 2012. Before the rise of Genghis Khan Mongolic was spreading at westward and absorbing Turkic speakers (Janhunen, 2008). During the Mongol expansion, Turkic speakers whose tribes and states had been incorporated into the Mongol empire were so much more numerous than Mongols that, although Mongolian was the language of command, it was Turkic rather than Mongolic speech that was chiefly spread across Central Asia and the central and western steppe.

@@fenglin1020 Rather than saying that the Tuva lost its land, it is more correct to say that the Mongols lost it. Since the 13th century, Tuva has been a part of Mongols for more than 700 years. You must know for yourself what kind of performance the Soviet Union played in Mongolia, Tuva, and Buriad. Soviets separated Buriad from Mongolia, made them independent, then occupied them. Soviets also seperated Tuva from Mongolia, made them independent, then occupied them. But it would have been beneficial for them to manage Mongolia after independence rather than occupying it. Also, Khuvsgul province was not the territory of Tuva. On the other hand, some places in Tuva, such as Davst mountain, were Mongolian territory (after independence of Tuva).

I did not know that Tuvans were descended from Scythians!! I knew the Sakha and Yakut of the northern regions were but thought the Tuvans were aboriginal to the area and related to the Ainu. Very cool. The northern corner of Asia is such a fascinating place-- I look at this part of the world and wonder if the Denisovans fleeing north from southeast Asia and the Neanderthal fleeing east from Europe against the onslaught of Homosapiens ever met eachother and co-mingled or even co-existed with Homosapiens for a time on this soil-- if so it would be the only place where all 3 late-stage hominid species were together at once. I've always wondered whether some of the more mysterious aboriginal peoples of this region could have come about in such a way.

Probably as much descendants as they are to every other group on the steppe. Moving around a lot comes with the territory. You didn't built single city and major industry since Soviet times, only selling oil and raw materials like undeveloped countries. Your old infrastructure isn't maintained since Soviet times and crumbles - look at how people in Ekibastus suffer from frost emergency. So don't push your independence to others, Tuba getting most of its money from Russian federal budget, without Russia they would be much poorer, and a small landlocked country.

I usually just use portraits listed on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons because that makes it easier to figure out the copyright situation for each picture.

I heard the Tuva language and today's Anatolian Oghuz Turkish means something like 20%, but it seems to me that the Kazakhs living in Mongolia speak Turkish.
