I originally gave this presentation as part of a fashion show in February at Locust Grove in Louisville (before COVID-related lockdowns). The title of my talk is a play on the title of a work by Jane Austen called "A History of England by a Partial, Prejudiced, and Ignorant Historian," part of her Juvenilia, which she wrote in 1791. My friends in the Indiana Historical Costuming Society kindly agreed to model their historical costumes while I talk about what I've learned in the past year since I began 18th century costuming.

Thank you. I have found women's fashions to be much more interesting than men's. It always annoyed me at red carpet events we are not given a 360 degree look, they have gotten better. I have been sewing since the 1970s. I made my first piece while on Spring Break from college. It was a black gabardine, red lined full length opera clock. The frogs died after 40 years so it now fastens at the collar with chrome dog chains. It has been used in library programs as a ringmaster, at a clown graduation ceremony, for Halloween, at a Harry Potter book release event, to movies in DC while dating, and to church and it gets many compliments. In the 1980s, it was mistakenly viewed as a Star Wars outfit. I reenact the American Revolution to early Mountain Man eras, and have hand sewn several of my pants and shirts and other gear. (I enjoyed your zoo visit video.) I have worn clothes from the18th Century in public, doing school and library talks, hunting education training for so many years, I have become very used to stares, comments, and photo requests. When I did ghost tours, a couple even loaned me their baby to hold for pictures. As a Baby Whisperer, that was fine with me. Since you do educational presentations, the DAR, the Daughters of the American Revolution organization, when said is spelled out as individual letters versus said as a word. I will be sharing about your work to others I know who are into the 18th century and Jane Austen

Costuming is so much more fun with friends! What was the last event you attended with friends before the pandemic began?

Fort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair.in 2019. It is been 3 years since we have had this gathering but it is actually a reenacting event. It is kind of a reverse -the public comes to see us by the hundreds/thousands. The camaraderie is palatable and has been missed for too long and in the meantime, sadly, some have left for various reasons and others have died. However, on a happier frame - When knowledgable people share their passion, sometimes, it sparks in someone else a desire to explore. Keep it up, it's catching!
