The HMS Ardent was a 64-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy. She was built by contract at Blaydes Yard in Hull according to a design by Sir Thomas Slade, and launched on 13 August 1764 as the first ship of the Ardent-class.
Ardent was part of the British fleet that fought in the Seven Years' War. She was present at the Battle of Quiberon Bay in 1759, where she was one of the ships that helped to defeat the French fleet.
In 1779, Ardent was captured by the French fleet during the American Revolutionary War. She was renamed the Ardent, and served with the French Navy until 1782, when she was recaptured by the British at the Battle of the Saintes.
After the war, Ardent was sold and broken up in 1784.
Ardent was a well-designed and well-built ship. She was fast and maneuverable, and was armed with a powerful battery of guns. She was a valuable asset to the British Royal Navy, and played a significant role in the Seven Years' War and the American Revolutionary War.
