If you haven't heard of Stéphane Von Gunten yet, then it's high time to watch this video. The descendant of a clockmaker for the Pope with a fantastic career in watchmaking, Stéphane has recently decided to launch his own brand, and it has turned out to be exceptional since its inception.
The very first model of Haute-Rive is called the Honoris and has an astonishing 1000-hour power reserve movement! The name of the watch itself, Honoris, was chosen as a tribute to one of Stéphan's ancestor’s creations patented in 1889, a pocket watch with 8 days of power reserve, known as the Hebdomas.
So check out our interview with Stéphane to learn how his first timepiece functions, how to wind it and what are the other hidden treasures of the intricate mechanism.

Looks like a very traditional aesthetic with a lot of new engineering. Highly inovative! Good luck to Haute Rive

Beautiful, which is what made me have a look, and then I discover the 1000 hours power reserve. I really like the idea of using the bezel to wind.

That bezel needed to be "chunkier" or smooth. Beautiful watch.

The Black dial is so sharp and attractive, dangerous, confidant - this could be a Bruce Wayne daily wear!

Wow, but why the watch was not working? Despite having 700 hours of reserve de marche

Would've appreciated an actual explanation on amplitude loss over the 1000hrs of power reserve (i.e. with some actual timing measurements, daily variations, etc.). To say that an amplitude loss is normal didn't really answer the question in a meaningful way. Also would like to see the watch actually function.

He's certainly not the first one to use a pusher for hand setting mode. The most recent other watch I could think of with this type of feature is the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic, in which a tiny column wheel switcher is used to switch between setting and winding, using a pusher just below the crown. This was out of necessity due to the peripheral rotor preventing the use of a traditional keyless work in such a thin movement.

I like the design a lot. For a time-only watch, the 1000 hours is kind of lost on me though. Longer power reserves make sense to me for watches with annual/perpetual calendar complications, which take a lot of time to setup. If it's time-only, the act of winding and setting the piece is actually part of the fun for me.

I have a bit of a strange question. First I absolutely love the watch, I think its a work of art and a mechanical masterpiece. Its very impressive. But the question I have is more related to language: only in Swiss French-speaking English translations do I hear the word "particularity" used frequently. I'm curious if this is due to a common French word that is used which translates into _particularity._ Its almost never used by native English speakers and I've always wondered. Thanks!

There is a French word "particularité", but "particularity" is a perfect English word too. I'm not a French nor English native speaker, but for me, "particularity" seems to be a pretty common word in English.

I think here the french word behind is "particulièrement" which is the exact translation of "particularly". It is used quite frequently to emphasise the importance of something. I really think the usage is the same as in english, maybe more common in french though :) (I'm a native french speaker from Switzerland :) ) The word "particularité" is a name, translating to particularity 👍

@@MrLeumass Thank you! I was always curious about that. I looked up the frequency in an online corpus which scanned over two billion words and it places as the 40,805th most used word in English. In Google books its even less frequent than that at .000172% from 2000 to 2019. Less if I expand the date. @peterdegelaen mentioned he hears it often but I honestly don't think I've ever used it or heard it more than once or twice in my life. "Particular" is 805th and I do hear that quite often.

This was a missed opportunity from Stephane to demonstrate the watch. We don't even see it moving! What about showing the use of the push button and the winding bezel? It's a watch for millionaires with the marketing budget of a drugstore digital.
