Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) uses a hive of genetically engineered wasps to escape from the tree.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on the best-selling young-adult novel by author Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games tells the dark tale of a 16-year-old girl named Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), who is selected to compete in a vicious televised tournament in which 24 teenagers from a post-apocalyptic society fight to the death for the entertainment of the masses. In the future, North America is no more. In its place has risen Panem, a divided nation split into 12 districts. Every year, each district selects a teen of each gender (called "Tributes") to test their worth in a competition known as the Hunger Games, which are broadcast across the nation as entertainment, and to reinforce the government's total power. For anyone wondering, the book states that the tracker jackers were in a sluggish state because of the smoke from the fire. That’s how katniss was able to get so close without all of them stinging her

I always thought that Glimmer had the worst death in the film, that had to have been agony. The book describes it so much more brutally as well, especially when Katniss goes over to her to take the bow and arrows. Its been years since I read the book but I do still remember Katniss (novel) having to use a rock to break all of Glimmer's fingers to get the bow because her hand had swelled so much she couldn't get the bow loose. It was a brutal scene in the novel, the film is brutal but it was a lot more graphic in the book.

They probably weren't fine. As like you said, Katniss had time to sleep for 2 days. Had they been fine, they'd have doubled back and tracked her down before she woke up. Especially since Rue didn't look like she could haul Katniss away.

Gettting stung by a wasp in like feeling a small curved needle go inside you. It' doesn't feel great man. I had a wasp nest set up inside of a car that I had in storage at a friends house. Never want that EVER to happen again.

Lucky for Katniss those were man-made wasps and not real wasps. While those might have had more powerful/painful stings the real-life versions have a hive mind that locks onto one scent when their nest gets attacked. The second Katniss got stung by the first wasp her scent would have been labelled as an enemy and the entire nest would have attacked her immediately.

Dang... Katniss actually took out three Careers (four in the books) : Glimmer (and the District 4 girl in the books) with the wasps, and Marvel and Cato (with the help of Peeta) with her bow. She's killed as many people, if not more, as each of the Careers. SHE TOOK OUT ALMOST THE ENTIRE CAREER PACK. I had never realized that.

In the movie: easily takes the bow from the girl's hand and withdraws the arrows from under her quite intact corpse In the books: breaks several of the girls' fingers with a rock to take the arrow and takes a good amount of time turning the deformed liquefying corpse around to get the damn arrows

I was 8 when this movie came out. Made the mistake of walking out into the living room and seeing this scene. To this day I still have an absolutely visceral reaction to even the sight of a wasp. To add insult to injury, I live in Florida.

I think Glimmer suffered the worst death in this movie. Being stung by genetically engineered wasps is a thought that can make anyone's skin crawl. It doesn't help the fact that I am afraid of wasps.

Honestly, if someone is trying to win this type of game, I don't see much point in forming long-term alliances on the battlefield. Yeah, you get some short-term protection, but odds are you're going to get killed by someone on your "team" eventually anyway.

In the book he was there and only got a few stings Most likely just like in the book he stayed awake all night and the director made him see what Katniss was going to do so he moved from the scene without us seeing or the director just made a mistake

They honestly probably didn’t even care. Remember how their is only one winner right, well was until the Game makers announced that the partners if alive from the same district could be the victors if they are the last remaining in the arena, but then they changed their mind again, but changed their mind a third time lol, anyways that is off topic. If the careers were the last remaining they would most likely try and kill each other. So in a way, they probably just thought that it was better the tracker jackers kill her rather than they kill her themselves. Then again they would still try and kill each other at the end of the game if they were the only ones remaining.

I just realized, the Tracker Jackers are a game mechanic - give people cutting tools and weapons, put nests above clearings, and clear the way for inspiration. *But,* more importantly: The people who make plays like that get lightly stung, and knocked out for a few days like Katniss. If they’re lucky (or if you force hostile players away from them), you can smuggle players a few days into the future, prolonging the games AND creating suspense as to the fate of characters who just distinguished themselves with creativity. Of course, you can’t *guarantee* that they’ll work even once, but if you pair them up with half-a-dozen similar mechanics (like whatever mysterious illness knocked Peeta out of commission for a few days), you only need one or two to work once or twice to secure yourself a “second wind” for the games’ entertainment and momentum.
