The Hyundai N Vision 74 captured the hearts of minds of the car world. With its nostalgic feeling styling, a call back to the Hyundai Pony Coupe concept, and overall 80's vibe - this car is undeniably cool to most. Hyundai has been rumored to have greenlit production on the Hyundai N Vision 74 and I truly think this will be a massive success for the company...as long as a few things change. So let's talk about it.

I am an entrepreneur and I have a car dealership that stores 50 cars at most. The cars range from early 2000's cheap boxes to newer, 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-classes. I've had 7 used Ioniq 5's in my dealership in the past year and a half, with all of them being sold within 2 weeks of arrival. They are popular, people like them for their looks and comfort, as well as the warranty that is considered one of the most trustworthy and reliable ones in Finland. I have never purchased a new car, because as a car dealer, I understand better than anyone what the realistic values of these cars are. And as for a car that I enjoy driving as an enthusiast, I've just been sticking to my R33 Skyline and '86 Grand National already for the past 8- and 5-years. Meanwhile my daily driver is a Nissan Cube. It's not because I couldn't afford more, I totally could buy a brand new AMG if I wanted to, but I just don't care nor see value in doing so. *BUT* ... If Hyundai were to make the NV74 a reality... I would buy one new, without a doubt. I haven't been as excited about a new car since the debut of the R35 GT-R (which I couldn't afford to buy at the time). I'm really hoping Hyundai will make this car a reality. As long as someone of my height, at 191cm can fit inside and drive it comfortably, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

The U.S. has, on average, nearly double the traffic-related and pedestrian deaths compared to the U.S. Maybe Europe having smaller cars might help, maybe we should veer away from SUV's and giant pavement princess trucks and get back to a more reasonably-sized sedan/hatchback/wagon focused market. The Pony Coupe concept not only inspired the Vision 74, but it went on to live in the Delorean DMC 12 as well. The guy who designed the Delorean, Giorgetto Giugiaro, also designed the Pony Coupe, when he found out that Hyundai wasn't moving forward with the Pony Coupe, the designer decided to use the same design for the DMC 12. Bottom line, if you like the DMC 12, thank Hyundai's partnership with Giorgetto Giugiaro just as much as John Delorean.

@yc627
@yc627 Жыл бұрын
Another backstory I discovered about the Pony Coupe concept was that Giorgetto Giugiaro thought some random rich asian man just wanted a personal custom carrozzeria one of a kind car, but the founder of Hyundai wanted a production car which was to be Korea's first production car that wasn't a license manufacture. So, sadly the Pony Coupe concept was lost to history and the Hyundai Pony was born. Which later the Pony Coupe concept's design cues were used for the DMC 12 almost 10 years after the concept. Also just quite recently, Hyundai reached out to Giorgetto Giugiaro to build the Pony Coupe concept so that they may have that "heritage" back (I heard Hyundai also gifted him an Ioniq 5). I'd say it's a massive move to show the world that they are not some random nobody. (Also the Pony Coupe concept 1974 and Hyundai Pony 1975 were a few of Giorgetto Giugiaro's earliest works)

My first car was an 85 hyundai excel and if you asked me back then if id spend $60k on an electric hyundai in a few decades id laugh and say the company would be out of business by then. Well as a mechanic, I've watched hyundai over the years start to make cars that id put on a pedestal with honda and toyota when it came it reliability and value so of course I had to buy an Ioniq 5. Ive had this this thing for about 5 months and I absolutely love this car! My biggest complaint about the car is the giant emblem on the hood that I cant remove because it's recessed into the metal. Aside from the amazing reviews and performance of the car I was sold on the DeLorean-esqe styling and I think the Ioniq 6 is going to be a flop for its looks. The Io5 is no sports car in the suspension department but it has more than enough power for your average person and the awd stystem is amazing to hoon in the snow. Its hands down my favorite street vehicle I've ever owned and im super happy with spending $60k on a car from a company that couldnt make a car that lasted more than 50k miles just a few decades ago. The only thing thatd make me get rid of it at this point is if this concept car becomes a reality. Well done Hyundai! Keep up the good work!

But yeah the only way they can mess this up is by making it a pure EV, it's got to be manual shift twin turbo ICE or at the most a performance hybrid. Or better yet both, a stick shift V6TT in the middle to go up against the RZ34 and Z4 clown shoe, and an AWD performance hybrid halo version (V6TT in the middle, EV up front) to go up against the GT-R and NSX.

As a child of the 80's, I'm looking at that car and thinking "Oh yeah. I've SO gotta get me one of those !". It's styling is almost like what a designer in the 80's would have come up with if asked what he thought sports cars would look like in 40 years time. It's gloriously retro, but still modern....... I frigging love it. If they keep the styling just as it is, and give it power and handling to match it's looks, I can see it being a huge hit. How I'm seeing it, most youngsters can't afford to buy a new sports car, and pay to insure/maintain it, so why build a car styled to appeal to them? The folks sports car manufacturers should be focusing on are the original 80's car nuts. We've moved up in our careers, we've had to earn enough to raise our families, then suddenly, our income is still the same, but the kids have grown up and moved out, so without the expense of taking care of the sprogs we notice we're sitting on a spot of extra cash....... "Now I think about it, we also don't need to drive a bloody mini van anymore, do we?"........ "And what do you know. Hyundai appear to now do a really cool retro sports coupe that brings back all those memories of a misspent and carefree youth". If Hyundai build this car, THAT's the demographic who'll be buying it, and that's why, with that styling, it'll be a hit ! :D

My second car was a 3.8 Genesis coupe. It had the predecessor to the engine in the Kia stinger, putting out just over 300hp and driving it was an amazing experience. Ever since Hyundai branched Genesis off into its own brand, they’ve been missing a rwd sports car. When I saw the N Vision concept I was immediately sold, I hope that can come out with this car and eventually (at the very least) revive the Genesis Coupe 🥰

I’ve loved Hyundai since 2004. The local dealer treated us good and didn’t rip us off. We’ve owned two Elantras. Both were good deals. The only reason we don’t own one now is size and capacity. Which the Palisade has solved. Due to prices, I have to wait a year and a half until my other vehicle is paid off. Then it’ll be time to start shopping.

Well, what "we" want probably wouldn't make them enogh money (what they want) as the market for these cars - as much as I love them - is probably rather small. They are enthusiast cars but most people aren't enthusiasts at all. That's why they buy stupid sh*t like soulless SUVs. Plus, families often cannot spend the money on a second car as a "weekend toy" anymore. So what car manufacturers do *is* what they *and* what "we" want: SUVs and trucks to make them tons of money, unlike small cars like Polos and Smarts or enthusiast cars such as the GR or an MX5 - which are pretty much the only ones left on the market. And even they are not cheap.

I have always wanted a "modern" delorean cyberpunk type car and this scratches that itch. If they come out with a manual inline 6 hybrid or v8 hybrid, I'm 100% in. I love the idea of electric motor assisted accelerations, going full ev for a bit if I really want to, but still having the sound and feel of a sizable engine with a stick would be the dream. The chances of all that are basically zero but imagine if they did.

I think its pretty safe to assume that for the initial launch it probably wont have the motors in the back unless it has a BHEV trim level and then a regular gasoline version with a built motor. which I assume wil be the most common trim level. would still be cool to esentially have a delorean stinger hybrid.

This car is a banger. I remember seeing it over a year or so ago and falling in love with it. As a guy that was in his late teens in the 80’s, this car ticked a lot of boxes for me. A little 80’s 200sx, a dash of 80’s Supra, a splash of Delorean and a few 90’s cues here and there. Just a brilliant looking almost Pininfarina styled car. But with enough of its own styling to be its own thing. As an old dude, I figured my age group would obviously be drawn to this car. To see so many young guys (and gals) drawn to this car, makes me smile. I’m glad blatantly 80’s styling cues can resonate with so many. Especially after being so under appreciated for so long. The 80’s was a crazy era. Everything was being pushed to the boundaries just before the dawn of the mass adoption of the internet. It was a zenith. It was “maximum” and “extreme” everything. Just happy to see the love for this car. It’ll be amazing if they build it. I think they will.

The styling is AWESOME! I REALLY hope they dont screw it up and change the styling or put a weak powertrain in it. They can always offer with a couple powertrain options. Well, the hybrid system you described is the most plausible imo, simply because that's how current Hyundai hybrids work. The engine is linked to the EV pack that's linked to the gearbox. They go EV at low speed or when the gas pedal is released (except if you're in sport mode), and when you ask for power, they use both the EV pack and the engine together to pull harder. Works pretty well, especially from a standstill. The EV's torque compensates for the low rev range lack of juice from the ICE, so the car jumps forward just like an electric one, and when the revs go up, you've got more power than the ICE alone. With a big engine and a competent EV pack, that could be a pretty snappy car. Also, on top.of regen braking, the combustion engine charges the EV battery constantly when you're not accelerating hard, so the next acceleration can always use the EV engine too.
