"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free …" stated the poem by Emma Lazarus about America's promise. New York City's Tenement Museum has recreated the apartments of immigrant families who lived in the very same building on the Lower East Side decades ago for a new exhibit, "Under One Roof." Correspondent Martha Teichner joins members of the families revisiting their childhood home at 103 Orchard Street.

Thank you for this wonderful and informative video! I was a child and lived all this! We are the survivors! Life was hard back then but there was love between people. People truly helped each other and cared for everyone.

A wonderful show about a wonderful museum. We visited this year, and came away with an increased understanding of my own past.

What a shame. Italians made up the largest immigrant group inhabiting the Lower East Side and yet, no mention at all. NYC boasted the largest Little Italy in the USA for the first half of the twentieth century, yet no mention. What a shame.

I love what Velazquez said about inviting the members of Congress to come to 103 Orchard Street! I personally identify myself with with this museum. My father migrated from Puerto Rico in the 1940's when he was in his early 20's to live in New York City. My mother also migrated from Puerto Rico in the early 1950's to live with her family in Manhattan as well. My brother and I were born in 133 West 89'th Street. I have visited the Tenement Museum 3 times! Always bringing friends and family ! And will continue to do so!

America has always been the beacon of hope for immigrants. This tenement held so many dreams, hopes, failures, triumphs and love from people of different nations. God bless, America!

Do the new follow up and latest chapter: Eric Adams and New Yorkers "controversially" questioning and, in most unwelcoming fashion, rejecting the arrival of the latest huddled masses yearning to be free... Hey, we have a really cool completely empty apartment building serving as a museum on the lower east side with all the necessities. Walking tours for those patting themselves on the back about how beautiful the immigrant experience enriched our society, what Emma Lazarus referred to as 'storied pomp.' Let them in, New York.

Good stuff but we need to admit that Legal immigration and illegal immigration of today are totally different. This show unfortunately has a layer of untruth throughout.

You took a story about a wonderful little gem of a museum & politicized it into a trump hit piece. Great job! No wonder why people loathe the media.
