Must be a BIG PAY RAISE,because I worked in North Carolina and was paid $9 an hour! You work 12 hour shifts with NO BREAK and had to beg someone to relieve you ,just for a bathroom break! And it's not the inmates you have to worry about, IT WAS YOUR CO-WORKERS ,BECAUSE SOME TRY TO MAKE YOUR JOB A LIVING HELL!

This was a half-assed report. They're not interested in what's going on in the prisons, they're interested in a sound bite. We've long since moved past 33 to 1. I would say we're about 6 months from the National Guard stepping in to help.

I say they should have stepped in 2 months ago. But you know as long as the upper management can cover it up it’s no problem.

You only interviewed 2 officers, what does a shortage mean. Poor health mental and physical. It’s broke up many marriages. Officer burn out. You know what is crazy canceling health insurance after retirement for new hires after 2021 happened quickly, decent pay seems to be a game of hot potato in the NC government. many officers have lost faith in the system. In my opinion.

Remember this,when you at work all day,come home and sleep to go back to work. You wife/girlfriend is out every day getting screwed by an ex prisoner with a lot of free time. You may want to get a DNA test on them kids. Or,the females that work in prison are getting rammed by a prisoners that rams Lil boys too. Once again, check the DNA.

I'm a former police officer and emt and applied at this department about five years ago and they wouldn't hire me because of "high blood pressure." They don't want good help.

What! I don’t understand these institutions and their stringent requirements. High bp is so common and manageable. I’m 52 and thinking about applying for a CO but the boot camp scares me a little! Sorry about your experience! Hope your doing ok now😊

That won't help that much..need to shut down movement if your that understaffed simple as that
@derrickbrooks4422 жыл бұрын
It’s most definitely a shortage of staff and working a lot of overtime days is very stressful

And the shitty pay. They don’t make enough to put up with what they do

I supervised a jail and worked as a Deputy Jailer and Correctional Officer. This article is a joke. They talk about one CO to 33 inmates. Man, i wish some of us had that few. More like 120+ on normal days. Jail was 500-600 inmates for 3-4 staff. Prison was 2K+ inmates, with housing units capping around 128 inmates. Not to mention the yard and other facilities. >>...and the 33K pay? Yeah, I started on with TN DOC at 27K and that was actually an increased wage than normal with 600 dollar sign on bonus. Prisons and Jails are ALWAYS short staffed. Ive run two housing units with 200+ inmates. Mandatory OT is constant. Always works 75+ hours a week. "Salaried" to cut down on OT pay in many ways, although you did get it. Jail started 9 bucks an hour, 10 after raise. Now they start 12. Most jails and prisons are at levels of understaffing that legally require intervention by the national guard and other agencies, but it is covered up. Watching this video is like watching someone get interviewed about littering while they secret have dead bodies in their closet.
