It's so worth it. I try to work in "semi-recumbent posture" every chance I get.

Evans' voice was symphonic; she wrings whole sentences out of single words, she drawls and gurgles, whoops and splutters. She's a madness of grandeur and establishment poise.There's nothing like it anywhere in drama.

I love his pause before continuing after she says “a handbag?” as if not even he can believe the sound that just came out of her mouth. LOL!
@scaryshari9 ай бұрын
@12classics39 - I hadn't thought of that before reading your comment, but now I TOTALLY agree!! :-D The actor looks not only shocked, but also like he's trying hard not to smile or laugh!! He's lucky he was able to get control of himself during that brief pause! LOL!!!

Its such a pity Oscar Wilde himself didn't live long enough to experience Dame Edith uttering his own famous oritory. He would have died with laughter - that's for sure....

These words are like silk. She's old as hell -- She's a lady considerably advanced in years. Her words are just fabulous to listen to, like I'm being serenaded by poetry.

Every time my wife mentions the word "handbag", I always interject a la Lady Bracknell, "A haaaandbaaag?!" Edit: I've now got this video bookmarked to start exactly when it should. So now, if I'm at my machine when my wife says the fateful word, she gets it from the source itself.

"The line is immaterial!" Lady Bracknell - Influence lost.
@SmudgeThomas3 жыл бұрын
The joke is rather lost nowadays, but at the time, the London Chatham and Dover had one side of Victoria, (the Western, smaller side) and the other was the London, Brighton and South Coast. "The Chatham" was regarded as one of the worst of the Victorian railways, catering to those who desired especially cheap accommodation. "The Brighton Line" by contrast went for the luxury market, running Pullman trains by the time Earnest came out, the most luxurious restaurant cars, with an hour to get to Brighton in them. A time still considered good today. Thus Lady Bracknell reveals that she is so contemptuous that the fact it's the nicer side doesn't matter.
