In this interview with Mark Matousek, Lynn Whittemore, Executive Director of the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center from 2014 to 2023, affirms the importance of community in spiritual life and discusses some of the challenges that meditation centers grapple with in building and maintaining community life.
About Lynn Whittemore
Currently Curriculum Director at the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center, she was Executive Director from 2014 to 2023, and is a longtime meditator and builder of spiritual community. Whittemore began her career in the corporate sector, serving in a number of senior executive positions, among them as vice president for a major communications and publishing organization. Straddling the worlds of media, commerce, and dharma practice, Whittemore has been an important voice in the grassroots movement to create racial and gender equality in the Buddhist world, most recently with CIMC’s pilot course, “Waking Up To Whiteness.”
