Oh my goodness! Your abstract is so what I am going for! People think abstract is easy, as, it does not replicate something exactly, but, I feel, that abstract is almost more “difficult”, as, it evokes a feel, a fluid energy that invites you into the abstract world. To me, that is very hard to do, but, it seems, you have mastered it! What a talent you are. Your sketchbooks of you abstract are my favorite. I am hoping, someday, to evoke what you do. What a wonderful artist you are. You inspire me. I am now off, to play in the abstract world! Thank you!

I love how you show us how much the small work effects the big work. You learn so much doing those small pieces and the momentum and consistency contributes to the mammoth, meaningful pieces down the track! Cool vid.

Well said- every artist needs to get over the whole "wasting paint" misconception! When you're in front of the easel, it's not certain whether it's going to result in a great painting every time, but you can always be completely certain of the results if you never try! Oh no, I'm late again. I really enjoyed this video, it was interesting and informative. I wish I could be as loss as you, my drawings are too tight as well as my paintings. You find freedom in your process that I have trouble finding, maybe I'll find it someday. I love the large painting and the smaller one, I think they came out great. Really interesting Sandi, thankyou. As a chronic illness warrior also, I am learning more to do this, I wonder- even though you are not painting for results do you find that work produced when sick has a different emotional tone or feel to it?. I loved your watercolour sketch particularly, It made me happy that on the left it looked like trees falling off a blue mountain 🙂 It was really fresh. Its funny that so much of what we do in art is about what is happening inside us, not so much the paint on the paper. x

That is my biggest problem Sandi, I got out of the daily habit of creating back when the craziness started a couple of years ago. I am having a hard time getting back into the flow. Stops and starts but not on a daily or consistent basis. I am closer to 'just do it' but maybe I haven't given myself permission to put myself first. Hmmmm PS I love your abstracts.

At the 7:45 minute mark when you hold up your sketchbook: "would anyone want to buy these and put them up on their wall?" Yes! I've had lots of people ask me if they can buy my journals and sketchbooks. It baffles the mind, however they do ask!

It's not easy, but I do agree that sometimes when you're in pain, working on something you love (unless I have an absolute blinding migraine) can help as a welcome distraction. I've made some decent art when I'm hurting- but to be clear, I much prefer to work when I feel decent! haha! I really love these pieces, by the way. The sky and the seagull flying overhead might be my favorite bit! And oh no, allergic to the cats! Sandi, what a bummer :( My mom is allergic to cats and only discoverd this like 20 years ago when she was in her 50s when allergies just appeared one day. We always had cats and she wasn't about to get rid of the two of them (thankfully for everyone's sake!) so she just takes allergy meds and it works for her. But I found that switching to a non clay litter can help, like Feline Pine. A few years ago, my son had a friend that would come over for playdates and his mom used to say she was surprised she wasn't bothered by our cats. She said she had bad allergies with cats, but not mine for some wild reason. I realized maybe it was because of the litter I used. Or I had magic cats? I'll accept either explanation😜

dear sandi -- i might have an inappropriate question, forgive me if this is a wrong question to ask but i'm going to anyway. i would love to take your landscape class, but. the work i do is mostly voluntary work; it's about 30 hours a week and with the amount i do receive (in dutch it's called "bijdrage", so like, contribution; it's a small amount as kind of a thank you so i don't think "contribution" has the same exact meaning) i'd have to wait months before i've saved up enough money. probably worth it but (sorry for using this argument but i do feel it's true) i really feel the urge to jump into this right now. so, my question is: is there any way i can pay in... parts? like, a fourth every coming month? i know this must be like... i don't know, this is probably the second or third comment i'm leaving on your channel, ... so i know this is a long shot but i thought i'd ask. i think it's possible through paypal, i did a course last year where i paid a certain amount for several months in a row automatically... well. thank you anyway, i understand if this turns out to be impossible. so, again, thank you, and another thank you for all the inspiration you're throwing out there... your spirit is contagious. X

ive always thought the idea of 'archival' quality work for any purpose is just silly. Do we need art to last for 500 years? What's so special about pictures they need to last that long? Why can't we think about art like a car or couch? You have it for a bunch of years then move on. It's the institutional art world(and supply manufacturers) that has misled everyone to believe they need to treat their materials like a museum thinks of a rembrandt. 99.99999% of art in the never needs to be archival for any reason. Do house builders think 'hey, we need to be sure this house is archival, it needs to last 800 years!!' ? Houses now are torn down after 50 years and they cost hundreds of thousands. What makes a bunch of ppl who play with plastic paint pigments on paper think they are such geniuses that their work needs to be treated so precious? Its such a dumb game really, and ive fallen into the same mode of thinking like all artists. btw, i love that painting at 10:43, i think its just fab that one 'you don't like as much'. :)
