I really miss my life 13 minutes ago when I didn't know there was an American attempt at this show

The inbetweeners is just a great example of awkward British banter that the USA don't get

I think another thing that makes the British version better is the look of the actors. The guys look like people that were at your school. The guys in the US version look like they came out of an acting agency.

I'd also like to add: The scene where Simon is drunkenly talking to Carly, another reason the joke fails to land is because in the US version, he's standing right up close to her, his face inches from hers. He seems predatory, as though he's about to make a pass at her. It's not funny, it's creepy. The UK version has him standing on the other side of the room, so he poses no immediate physical threat and just comes off as pathetic more than anything else.

British swearing is 100% funnier then American swearing

The British is a classic representation of a realistic British group of boys it’s so relatable and the actors were perfect

The office remake worked as they adapted the jokes and style to fit an American audience The inbetweeners remake didn’t

Quite simple, America just can’t do British humour , Nothing more to it really

The main thing is with the british version the characters are all realistic, they feel real and you can see why theyd be friends, the american ones feel manufactured and fake as hell.

As an Irish Man I totally get British humour. Why The States has to remake everything is beyond me.

The American version just didn't have, y'know, British humor.

The UK humour is just funnier.

i actually think Superbad is a better comparison with the UK inbetweeners than this attempt at a remake. Very different stories and characters on the whole, but the relationships in both felt genuine and the quick interactions between each friend group felt authentic. Also the buying alchohol scene has some obvious similarities with Will/Fogle both dressed to impress and getting laughed at despite their confidence.

The UK Inbetweeners is the best real-to-life representation of the average British teenagers life on telly

I'll never understand why the US can't just air the UK version of shows?

As an American, UK inbetweeners was phenomenal. I've rewatched it so many times. I can't wait to watching AGAIN

the best thing about the inbetweeners was like- it was so very British- you had the gloominess of the sky and the strange movements, its definitely more relatable and it sort of felt like you were there

Also, UKs one is just relatable. It's how most teens act in the UK

the problem was that rather than changing it so that it actually depicted THEIR high school life with their humour, they just took ours and tried to roll with the punches and it didn’t work. they didn’t change anything in their version

Fun fact Matt Smith was apparently the second choice for Will and they said the reason they went with Simon Bird because when Will went off on his long rants it was funnier when Bird did it cos he looked more like a loser. When Matt Smith did it he looked like a dashing hero standing up for what was right and the writers said it wasn't as funny.

Basically, British people are more funny

Another good part of the British version was the fact that the boys are played by actors in their twenties

I didn’t even know the American version existed until my British friend told me about it so I had to see how bad it was. American humour is absolutely horrid except for the exceptions.

The reason Inbetweeners was great was the witty British banter. Whenever an American tries to copy a British programme and replace it with their shitty humour it never works out.

I'd actually suggest Americans watch the UK Inbetweeners, it's a good insight on our humour

I think that one of the biggest differences in a big between UK comedies and American comedies, is that the people from the UK carry a lot of resentment in they're humour which comes across as very dry and relatable (especially if you are British yourself). For example Will in inbetweeners UK is brilliant as he wants to be friends with all the others but absolutely resents them at the same time which really works. I find in American comedies, they find it hard to represent a feeling of resentment when trying to be funny and rely too much on just acting silly. I found this especially while watching shameless uk/us versions. I think the UK frank Gallagher plays the roll brilliantly as he can come across as very relatable as being the funny drunk but you can also see how much he resents everyone around him too. The American Frank Gallagher just seems like someone playing a hollow drunk person and doesn't come across as authentic and funny. And another thing not comedy related, I find is American shows always try to force a feeling of melancholia on to scenes that don't need it. Like a sad scene will have this soppy sad music over it to force you to feel sad, instead of the actors doing it themselves

So glad I grew up in England so I could watch the good one

American and english humour is SO different. The US seems to find slapstick dare I say 'simple' humour funnier whereas the UK find, ruder, piss taking jokes funnier. Thats why the UK inbetweeners WAY better, Uk shows in general tbh because they don't have canned laughter and toilet jokes every two seconds

11:41 what you said was a very good point. I honestly believe with a different set of writers/directors, this would have 100% worked; I think Judd Apatow and co. would have done an amazing job! The Inbetweeners gives me “Superbad” they’re so similar and that was hilarious in every way possible. It was actually the reason why I decided to give The Inbetweeners a try.

I watched every episode of the American Inbetweeners and had completely forgotten it ever existed until today. That may say something about my memory, but it says a whole lot more about the show.

As a Canadian, I picked up on British swearing quite quickly. An occasional Google, but other than that, it’s the context they were used. The British version was great. The American version was made by bumders.

At least they haven’t done the same with Friday night dinner... Yet

They main thing is that the Inbetweeners were based off real events the writers had and it justifies growing up in the U.K. Perfectly and you just can't carry that out to other countries

The main thing is I can image this is what happened in a British highschool because I was sort of in a part of, where else I would never image this happen in an America highschool.

To be fair anything trying to copy another script almost exactly will never live up to the original.

The UK original paints a really painfully accurate and hilarious picture of middle England. There are no caricatures, particularly in the secondary cast, and no punches are pulled when it comes to displaying the way a teenage lad's mind works.

How did it even last 1 whole month is BEYOND me. I would have filmed it for 2 hours and been like NOPE!.

Am I the only one bothered by the US character design? For one they made Will a stereotypical 'hot nerd', the whole point was that Will was meant to be a complete nerd who had no chance with girls, but they've made him completely attractive and still try to push the narrative of no girls going for him. Neil's design just...didn't work. His old design was that of fitting a stereotypical UK teenage boy and while this is depicted for America I still don't think his emo hairstyle fit well. Jay's one just didn't work at all, at least for me. I feel as if they went too far with creating him to be the average teen who wouldn't have a chance with girls and instead just made him very stereotypically unattractive. Simon didn't have statue of liberty hair.

My favourite thing about Neil was even though he wasn't very intelligent somehow he was the least creepy of his friends, probably because he wasn't trying so hard. Also "haunted like Harry Potter and the Bible" is just the best line.

The american version of Jay pisses me off so MUCH

Why can't Americans just watch the British version, do we speak a different language or something? It would be like us Brits making British versions of Frasier, Friends or the Big bang theory, it would be ridiculous. We enjoy American shows without remaking them. Do Americans believe a show can only be good if it's American?

I'm an American and identified with the British version. We all have a part of the four guys in all of us.

As an American, I love British Inbetweeners just for the amount of google searching I have to do. It's always charming to hear derogatory terms that I'm unfamiliar with and later find out what they mean.

American tv doesn't understand the actual humour that "cringe" can bring and just use it as cringe, also the american one is so unrealistic compared to the british one which was the main attraction of it.

US version is BTEC

The slang really brings the UK version home as well. It's just so unexpected from a foreigner's point of view, whilst the US version is just the regular ol' regular.

I think that just proves how drastically different British and American humour is. That being we actually HAVE a sense of humour. Have you seen the adverts for Irn-Bru?
