The Proto-Indo-Europeans of the Pontic Caspian Steppe and other parts of Eastern Europe in the neolithic worshipped a paternal deity who they called Dyḗus ph₂tḗr “sky father”. With comparative linguistics and comparative mythology we can learn a lot about this ancient god from whom Greek Zeus, Roman Jupiter, Irish Dagda, Vedic Dyáuṣ Pitṛ́ and Norse Odin and many others also derive. In this video I explain what we know about the god’s mythic roles relating to cattle, his relationship to other gods in the Indo-European religion and his association with different animals in later pagan religions.
The Sky Father is the most well attested of all the Indo-European gods and is central to our understanding of Proto-Indo-European religion.

The evidence of such connections to other cultures are weak at best and such similarities are not that uncommon because such ideals can come into existence separately believing otherwise is like calling people dumb, stupid or that such ancient people did not have imagination or had trouble coming up with their own stories that is of course a way of insulting other cultures and religions and even less intellect peoples can achieve more with writing and storing information and knowledge and a class of educated people since knowledge and technology is build upon knowledge and technology that needs to be passed on to new generations and is very possible that modern man is less intellect then he was in the past and less able to survive in the conditions of their ancestors existed in thus the belief of Europeans greatness being locked in the ice until it thawed allowing the growth of nations that are maintained by the food source farms, how many of your children will survive in the far north without heating and technology ?What choices will cause them to live or die and reproduce offspring that may or may not live to carry on the blood-line and traits of their forefathers. The northern wind of death was even more ruthless in such ages making man hide in holes and tents thus hel is frozen and unheated, how many millions of babies died of the cold over such generations? The modern age is where weakness grows and reproduces more easily and can even result in the dumbing down and the corruption of the populations.

I don`t like to my children to live in wild west with colt in the hand. Alsotoday a lot of children, people are dying every day of starvation and illness. Maybe in next 20-30 years west civilization will be inferior to third world - China, Brazil, India etc. Nowadays world has more power, science, resources and knowlidge then people in all history until now. It is just matter of ethics and humanity to make a world better. But if I look almost all comments, everybody is interesting about battles, conquering, fight, defeat etc. That in`t proper way to survive onthe earth. In last 30 years we have done everything to destroy earth. The same future as people on Easter island have done in history. They have cut allthe threes on island and hacehad problems withfood and other condition. Our wayis today the same, just we don`t haveanother island to rescue ourselve. Different culture, same spirit. Appreciation of and gratitude towards nature's elements, with personification (deistic) or without personification (animistic), is ubiquitous among non-Abrahamic traditions. This is why Indo-Europeanism, Dravidianism, Tengrism, Korean Shamanism, Daoism, etc. are mutually compatible, and when they meet, tend to create syncretic cultures rather than communal enmity. There have been wars between some of said cultures, though, but these wars were not a means of religious subjugation, but of redistribution of wealth.

In Finnish, the Christian God is frequently referred to as "Taivaan Isä" which means father of heaven or father in the heavens. As you may or may not already know, Finnish language and culture contain many ancient Germanic, Pre-Germanic and Proto-Indo-European words and elements, so this may be significant. This all said, I cannot say how old this custom of calling god the father of heaven is. It might not be connected to the Indo-European custom. Then again, in kalevalan folk poetry, one of the most common epithets of Ukko the Overgod is "Taatto taivahinen". Taatto is a very archaic word meaning father, and seems like it might be a loan from Proto-Germanic "attô". Taivahinen means "heavenly" or "sky-residing". The form of this word is archaic.

The slavic word for father is ''Tata'' so ''Taatto tivahinen'' would be ''Father God in the Sky''. Another thing of note is how the word for ''God'' and ''Giant'' are used interchangeably more often than not and Giants being part of the family for most of the Indo-European pantheons.

@@perfectpREdAtori Finnish "taivas" might be derived from Proto-Balto-Slavic "deiwas" or indeed from Indo-Aryan "daywas". Interesting. In Hungarian paganism (which is Tengriism) there is only one god, the Skygod, or Skyfather. His consort is Earthmother, their daughter is Tündér Ilona who is queen of fairies (tündér) and seems to be identical to Greek Helena Tunderos. Skyfather is the sun itself which travels through the sky at day on his horse pulled chariot. Pulling this chariot is heavy, so the horses sweat, this sweat falls down to Earth and creates morning dew. In mythology we have something similar to horse riding twin brothers. There were two brothers, Hunor and Magor who became the mythical archfathers of Huns and Magyars (Hungarians).

But all races have their perceived expression of their Gods. If we are guided by divine forces, they would likely want to be intimate and close to us, so they relate to us in our unique tribes, and nurture each specific tribe in the way they will be closest. Our "All-father" is the encompassing expression of our divine hierarchy. Our Gods serve us in the best way they know how, personally, tribally. Everything can start from 1 fundamental thing (atoms) and still make up trees, seas, humans etc. I do understand what you're saying about cultures and gods being specific to them. In western slavic culture we have two twin gods Lel and Polel who are sons of goddes Lada/Lela/Dzidzilela(goddes of Love and marriage) so it is hard to have an opinoon or to write something about what you heard.

@@theredbeard6333 I'm southern Slavic. In our folktales Perun is the ancestor of Slavs, his wife is Ognjena the hearth fire goddess, Svarog is his father and his wives are the Sun goddess Slava and Dawn star goddess Danica (the later also plays her part as one of the three goddesses that weave fate). Veles is viewed as a god of magic and trials, also as a brother of Perun. Mokosh is rarely mentioned besides the creation story for where he messes up by stealing from his brother and accidentally creates monsters. The only female goddess associated with the Earth is Morana who is mostly associated with burials and swamps instead of agriculture. She's depicted as a lover to either Svarog, Perun or Veles. I beleive we may have gotten some Greek influences mixed in there due to christianization but that's about the gist of it.

@@theredbeard6333 The problem we face with Slavic folklore is that we lack written sources. All though there were some runic findings last century they were mostly dismissed as fragmentary and ornamental. Then there's the problem that Communism presented with the elimination of all cultural traits not tied directly into it self. There was a cult of Xhors (one of the horse riding twins and a god of fire) that survived in western Ukraine all the way UNTIL Stalin ordered their extermination.

The top of the arrow is the transcendent sky and the vertical the axis mundi. Creates an arrow pointing skyward, or to the transcendent, yes. Odal rune on the other hand more akin to gateway, from which one emerges (kin, community, heritage) or through which one enters into (initiation, shamanistic states). The etymology for Wotanaz and Tiwaz reinforce this distinction also. Wotanaz communicating rage, mania, ecstacy, divine inspiration... the shamanic. Tiwaz communicating sky father, natural law...the transcendent sovereign.

In Mahayana Buddhism, the mind is compared to the sky: infinite, clear, and indestructible; it cannot be pierced by the sword or burned by fire; although clouds come and go and its appearance changes, the true nature of sky is formless and immutable. For me these are pointers toward the metaphysical significance of the Sky-father. The hieros gamos represents the absolute impregnating the manifest universe, which, represented by earth, is full of concrete, particular, and impermanent forms in contrast to the empty and unified nature of sky. This relationship is also expressed in Samkhya, in which purusha, consciousness, is itself formless, but takes on the appearance of prakriti, nature, when it comes in contact with it, although purusha is really only the matrix in which prakriti enacts the interplay of the gunas, qualities. Just as the the Earth-mother is impregnated by the Sky-father, prakriti begins to move and change when it comes into contact with purusha, the way a flower moves to face the sun. As always, love the video. I'd be very interested to see you make one about the meaning of sacrifice. The wolf video you hinted at piqued my interest as well.

Buddhism comes from Persia, Persia from Mesopotamia and Mesopotamia from Sumer, who really gave birth to the whole world. Sumerian culture practically single handedly invented every building block to civilisation, the reason why Mesopotamia is called the "cradle of civilisation". This then gave birth to the Proto-Indo-European & Proto-Indo-Iranian languages/religions/philosophies which have spread out to the four corners of the earth. (This all aligns with the biblical history = Sumer being the beginning of the world, and then a separation from Babylon (Sumer). The Buddha is called "Shakyamuni" (Sage of the Shakyas), Śākya has the same origin as “Scythian”, called Sakas in India. Who were originally Iranian peoples that mainly settled in the Kingdom of Urartu (modern day Armenia/Iran (Aryans)) who spread across to Europe, Eurasian Steppe, Central Asia and Northern India (Nepal/Tibet). The ancient Armenians called themselves "Children of the sun". Ironically all Sakas (Shakyas) called themselves Ādicca nāma gottena "kinsmen of the sun" or "descendants of the sun". Coincidence? The Buddha states in the Sutta-Nipāta, "They are of the sun-lineage" (adiccagotta). Buddhism is merely philosophies taken from older traditions, and specially elements from Zoroastrianism (Persian/Iranian influence). Three Vajras ( "body, speech and mind") is from the Zoroastrian "Good thoughts, Good words and Good deeds" which is the core of Zoroastrian teachings called the "Threefold Path of Asha". Other teachings on duality and individual judgement mimic within Buddhism. "Haoma" is a divine plant in Zoroastrianism and in later Persian culture and mythology. Haoma has its origins in Indo-Iranian religion and is the cognate of Vedic soma. In Old Persian cuneiform it was known as 𐏃𐎢𐎶 hauma, as in the DNa inscription (c. 490 BC) which makes reference to "haoma-drinking Scythians" (Sakā haumavargā). There is also the Tibetan Buddhist sect called "Bon" who scholars have said the religion came from Persia. And most importantly the Vedic gods of Mitra, Varuna, Indra are written on Mitanni documents (Whos kingdom was in Iran/Armenia) and align with Zoroastrian gods (Mithra & Mitra etc). There are many things I could go into, but essentially Far Eastern religions and philosophies are born from Sumer, which the bible gave an accurate description in Genesis, and which the Book of revelation calls "Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth." - Revelation 17:5. Meaning false teachings from across the earth came from an even more ancient false teaching that begun in Sumer (Babylon). The bible gives the true account on history which leads to many revelations. Jesus Christ being the greatest of all.

Oh, so the febrile deliriums about censorship reach here too lmao. It's amazing how this kind of subject is a magnet for paranoid people. This channel and its videos keep appearing on my recommendations and they also show up if I search for them. I believe the algorithm will only hide it if the comments and so on are littered with individuals with undesirable ideas. I wonder where people are being threatened, tortured and censored for studying indo-european culture and society. I am yet to see such things happening, not even in my oh-so-leftist circles this kind of subject is seen as something bad. To be honest it is very interesting and studying indo-european history is *very* important to build coherent social analysis since the origins are undeniably relevant to the future development of societies in general. This kind of debate and study is immensely important to social studies, the only thing that gets in the way are a few noisy ones who have laughable, yet dangerous ideals that romanticize the violence of past times.
