Hi Gabriel, the mountains are amazing. It reminds me of the Caribbean. The biggest takeaway is it's safer than the Caribbean. People seem much more friendly, but the lifestyle is remarkably similar when you see livestock and a lot of vegetation and crops. I'm surprised you haven't investigated the rainforest, there are several rainforests and several rainforest hotels, something else to experience.

Although I am more Europe and North Africa-oriented, I see this Bali Island like very interesting, Asian ancient. Pity that it is so small, as these Hinduism sculptures (different than those in India) are beautiful. They can be compared in some way with the Buddhist Temple Borobudur in Java but mainly still in use. Cairns seems like a very good starting point in Australia as it is around the Great Barrier Reef and lies on the East Coast where lie almost all major sights in Australia (although quokkas as animals are found on the west - Rotney and Bald Islands off Perth and Albany, and Uluru is in the center of the main island, in the desert). Have a nice time in the land of Santa Claus surfers, desert and nice ocean towns. If you will need some cooling after Bali and Australia, there are nice mountains on the South Island of New Zealand where hiking is possible.

Please, show the outback, Gabe, that's the real Australia, not only the cities. There are tours. Best would be if you cross from north to south, Cairns, QLD to Adelaide, SA. But you won't have this much time, I think. Perhaps, you can do a small outback tour showing bit of this rugged area. Loved Coober Pedy a lot, called 'opal capital of the world's, looks like a wild west town and has fully underground houses, so-called dugouts where you can also spend the night. Movies were filmed there because it seems like another planet. Wright Air offers scenic flights in this unique area. Also, The Breakaways are not far away, unique mountain formation in a National Park. It's a pity, that you spend only 3 weeks in Oz. These big tours, north to south/east to west, crossing the outback, are awesome.

Another option is to extend your visa on arrival (VOA) by another 30 days. You could for example change your flight to a date that is approaching or near the 60 day mark, and go to the immigration office and apply for the extension. They will ask why you are extending (for which you can tell them pretty much any reason), pay another Rp500K, fill out some forms, and wait about a week. They will hold onto your passport, and you'll get a WhatsApp message and/or email to come in for biometrics. In your specific case right now, you would need to keep in mind that immigration offices in Bali will be closed for about a week over the New Years week for their "Galungan" holiday. However, if/when you come back to Indonesia keep this VOA extension idea as an option in the event you want to stay longer. One side note on this process: In paying the Rp500K, the immigration office cannot directly take money. They will send an email with an account number, and you'll have to visit a local bank or Post Office where they can directly handle cash, and pay immigration electronically.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos You're very welcome! We just got back from a 6 week stay in Solo, Indonesia and went through this process. In my case, it was due to the airline (Thai Airways) cancelling our flight and offering me something beyond my 30 day limit. It was a free ticket (from United frequent flyer), so ended up staying another 2 weeks to get the same booking class, otherwise it would have been over $1000 to buy additional mileage for leaving out on the following day. We made the best of it, and enjoyed two more weeks. It then occurred to me that this could be a pretext for immigration on getting an extension should I ever want to stay beyond 30 days in the future. I told immigration that my flights had been changed, and that was it - visa extension granted.

Sad... So glad I got to spend 5 weeks living mainly native in Bali and saw soooo much more and more beauty and learned about the culture and funerals and temples and what it all means to the Balannesee... Seems that you are missing all the best places to see the beauty and Mt. Agung is spiritually uplifting -you totally missed that mountain :D. It might help you to consult with a good guide FRIST= then go off on your own....This was depressing what you showed us compared to the gorgeous rice patties and best temples and this was soo lacking compared to what I got to experience . Maybe you could read a bit about their religion so understand their temples and funerals and so to share with us...I feel you have missed soo much..AND It thrills me at what a great experience that I had...though I did miss step walks into waterfalls=good for you. IMHO this is the worst of Bali and I am sorry you missed soo much :(...and /or maybe it has changed soo much in the past years . So much traffic!! That was only in the capital city when I was there...Glad that you enjoyed it though.
