Two things. 1) Dylan, it means a lot when you post. I know you like to "provide" something with each video, but truthfully, providing content is something very valuable. You don't need to win, or do anything special. Just posting makes me happy, and I save the video for my nightly stretching as my "unwind" video before bed. It's cathartic. And I appreciate it. 2) I'm getting so annoyed with the new wave of players on Colonist. OWS seems to ALWAYS win because players just can't seem to see the danger in the devs. They just see black at 4, when he was really at 8, and you at 5 with "scary ports!" It's beyond frustrating. I was hoping grinding up into a higher ranking would get me past those players. But no luck yet.

Just adjust to the situation, choose always OWS setups and buy devs.

i am rarely playing so not very good. but there was one game where 2 guys thought i was helping the currently "winning" player to win like if we were teaming or something. I was the only one recognising that the currently winning player was capped at 9 points and his only way to get to 10 was with a ressource he only had access to via one spot. so i just said that to them and if they just keep blocking it he just cant win. they were still trying to get each other take largest army because i blocked off longest road for everyone. (the 9 point player had both but i blocked off one of the other guys so they cant take it) in the end i just needed to wait for my numbers to just take 10 points with pure settlements/cities lol.

@@E_-_-there are some similarities, but the differences are more pronounced. You can solo-block a bot several times, without fearing retaliation. Humans are emotional, and remember what happened in previous rounds, or even previous games. Bots just pick a move based on static analysis of the current position.

Even though Dylan lost, the value that every person watching got was the invaluable analysis of the game. It's unfortunate that that one road cost you the game, but it serves as a good reminder for the next time the power of the defensive road. Keep up the valuable content. You don't have to win for us to take something away.

"It's unfortunate that that one road cost you the game" -- This is not even true. Dylan admits at 16:24 that "this road doesn't actually matters". What cost Dylan the game is that he chose a no-ore setup. Dylan without ore is a -200 ELO player. If he had settled on 9 ore and 9 wheat, he would have a better shot at winning this game. Although playing as 4th, his winning chances were not great regardless.

Super frustrating when you get blocked all game only to end up at 6 VPs. It's one of those things were you prefer to actually be ranked higher to play with people that read the board better

I think 5-9-10 for the second settlement would have been better since it gives you a road on every 5 rolled. Also, 11 production instead of 10.

Loved the commentary this game. The placement strategy was some great insight on the strategies you could run with on the board and how it impacts each opponent. Overall, your other opponents didn't recognize black's strong setup and it paid the price for their win. However, good work and the loss was well received

Your first city was correct. After settling again you said you wanted that other spot forgetting the city giving you that settle in 2 rolls. Also, your best numbers 6 and 8 have both 2 producing spots which is harder to block. So first city def correct.

At 12:46 you just needed one wheat/ore for wood trade to plow black to the 4 3 (porting sheep for wood). You spent your time analysing the previous move and then ran out of time. Quite frustrating to watch, as you could be a much better player if you used your time efficiently

Man if you want to win just stick either with OWS or a road strategy. These alternative strategies are fun and everything, but just don't work. If you want to get to top1 you need to play to win, not to make these alternative games.

Great content but I feel like often you try to overexplain, especially since most of your viewers are already doing some level of basic analysis, and then you psyche yourself out of some better options and don't focus enough on the game... Once I'd like to see you just play relaxed lol

Just different play styles. Drew is definitely an "instincts" player, and Dylan is an "analyzer." Both have there pros and cons. It's just that the cons of the analyzer show up more on online Catan, and the pros show up more in real world Catan.

Dylan has said many times "I am so bad in this game". Are you starting to think that he is even worse? Nah, he is a pretty good player, when he plays to his strength (OWS, slow time controls, opponents in voice chat).
