You signed on the dotted line and went on to be a SEAL and wounded in combat. Shake it off when the chest thumpers play the “one up” game with you. There will always be someone that has more jumps, more deployments, can run farther, do more push ups or carry more weight. They are the ones with the problem, not you. You rock! Coming from a 25 year Green Beret with multiple post 911 deployments to both theaters. Oh, and a faithful Mr. Ballen listener. ☠️

It's funny when he talks about there being no pain after he was hit by the gernade. I ride the bike a lot, and I was hit head on by a car, and that's one thing I remember; it didn't hurt. It didn't hurt till a few moments later, I don't know how long it was, but when I started to move, that's when it hurt. Still hurts, to be real.

Glad I’m not hurt” as soon as I reached for my seatbelt, every inch of my body ached and stung. I almost lost my right leg to “degloving”… Imagine a woman removing pantyhose but it’s your skin and muscle, down to the bone, from above the knee and it’s all hanging off your ankle. I didn’t feel it at all. Actually tried to stand up, looked down and remember saying: “oh shit”… Sat back down and just kept telling myself- I have to move. It did eventually become a burning sensation which escalated to an extreme burning sensation and I remember thinking it was the sun.. Asked the medic to get me into the shade. Didn’t help much but docs saved my leg. Luckily the bone didn’t break because then I wouldnt have my leg

Chris, I didn’t know what to expect from the screen (I can’t remember what the technical term is) but wow. It’s incredible. It really does add more depth to the story and makes it feel even more immersive. People are going to copy that for sure 😂 And thank God Mr. Ballen survived and is now able to tell this (and other) stories. Bravo. To both of you.

I met a guy the other day who told me he was a former Navy SEAL. I asked him "What is the name of your podcast?" He said. "I don't have one." I knew he was a phony.

I’ve been in a couple of near-death situations and Mr. Ballen is right, everything slows down and my only thought was a mildly curious, but completely indifferent, “huh, so this is how I die”. Thankfully, each time I experienced the moment, something happened and I was able to survive the situation, but I will always remember the way my brain was able to process the moment and I felt complete acceptance and a little bit of curiosity about dying. The movies always get it wrong.

14:00 That is the exact feeling when you think you will die - you may think about everything but surprisingly there is no fear among emotions. I thought something like: "How stupid it is - all my plans were just wasted and relatives will be upset and I cannot do anything with it" some kind of angry...

My bro went to Afghan, that landing he described was exactly what my bro described to me, apparently it was the standard way for all planes to land at the base. Rather than fly in on a slow decent, all planes do a literal corkscrew decent down to the runway and it is scary as shit as a passenger....
