Hidilyn Diaz Francisco, born on February 20, 1991, in Zamboanga City, is a celebrated Filipino weightlifter. Notably, she clinched the first-ever Olympic gold for the Philippines at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics where she also set a new Olympic record!
Her groundbreaking journey began with a wildcard entry for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, making her the first female Philippine weightlifter at the Games. Diaz's remarkable performance was observed when she earned a perfect 10 in the snatch and a clean and jerk total of 192 kg. Subsequent years saw Diaz achieving consistent excellence, including a silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics, gold at the 2018 Asian Games, and notable podium finishes at World Championships. Her exceptional dedication and groundbreaking accomplishments continue to inspire both her nation and the global sports community.
