Welcome to the Interstellar Painter. In this video I share my process for creating an oil painting. I've chosen to do an oil painting of Paul Atreides a top the sandworm which I plan on displaying at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con Art show. I begin by tracing then painting in the character and backgound then conclude by showing the completed project with final brief review.

Biggest realization I ever got as an artist: "Only the artist knows it ain't finished." Kate Mulgrew obviously enjoyed sitting for you. Bringing a face to life with believable expression is the painter's master ticket. Yours is punched brother.

Beautiful paintings and it's really interesting to see your process and how Bob Ross's technique works out for real. I thought your landscape using his technique was amazing by the way so don't be hard on yourself!!! Seville is a lovely city, we were lucky enough to go just before the pandemic and I was absolutely gobsmacked by the Plaza de Espana.

Thanks for all your kind comments. And yes we absolutely just loved Seville. Wow…that Plaza de Espana was amazing and to think it was built for an exposition. They sure went all out. We’ll definitely go back some day. Thanks for watching

Glad you took the time to share your paintings and talk about your method! Appreciate the really nice summary of your progress & process. I get your comment about distraction and why this is a standalone episode at the moment. Previously, I've found drawing & painting to be quite subconscious mind-to-brush event. So, maybe practicing a kind of mindfulness during the COVID time? Hopefully, your Spain trip will inspire some future matte paintings (a now some what lost art). Would love to see another future project that mashes up these acquired skills!

That looks absolutely amazing, I could never paint like that! :D If you ever want to do some model building with the new Dune movies, I would love to see you build the 1/72 Ornithopter kits from Meng, those look very interesting.

Very interesting video. You are bring out a new talent. Keep it up. Hope it inspires others to pick up an art brush and pallet as well. Painting can be a way to “recharge your cerebral batteries” after a long arduous bench session of building interstellar models (see what I did there?)….never mind-sigh.

Local lady paints murals on buildings. She is all over town now. So, we are talking 120, 130' long complex murals. Guess how she puts 'em up there. Yep, a big honking Epson projector. She ail=ms it from across the street and her minions trace the lines with carpenter's pencils. You are not cheating if the big boys do it. Oh, and while I'm riffng, Rembrandt. Remember him? He and several other "Dutch Masters" used a camera obscura and mirrors to do those wonderful life-like paintings. According to authorities, there are way too many lefties in them pictures to be natural.
