@@frankproto5770 so far no. i’ll keep an eye on things but I don’t think temps I’ve used have been hot enough to damage anything. Havent gone over 105 and kept at 100 when I first started. Thanks for the video. I would not have thought of using a food dehydrator to dry paint, glue etc. I have been using a hair dryer for years now, especially on high humidity/rainy days.
@InterstellarModeler2 күн бұрын
@@williamporter7596 yeah i still use a hair dryer for quickly drying smaller things but this thing really works well. I just did a base for that Gorn bust. I put some stain, dried that, then applied acrylic gloss coat and it dried really quick.

I would have never thought of this! Another thing you mentioned, putting washes over gloss paint. I've never done that but I can see how it keeps the wash flowing only to the recesses instead of darkening the flat surfaces too. I've always compensated with using lighter colors.
@InterstellarModeler2 күн бұрын
@@reb3102 yes the gloss coat really helps to make the washes turn out right. Also gives u a chance to do repeated applications depending on the look your after. Excess easily wipes off with a damp cloth when using acrylic washes. Thanks for watching

I was devastated when I heard about Boyd. I literally just went to see him back in April. I was one of his fans who purchased one of his models for sale to help support his treatments(I bought his Ultimate Space Battleship Yamato....I treasure it). I drove through 6 states to his house to pick it up and to meet one of my internet idols of modeling. He was so nice, too. Easily the coolest old nerd I've ever met. He showed me his work space and his model room and we talked for over 6 hours about all things science fiction, modeling and our similar experiences growing up. He was spry and enthusiastic...and for lack of a better word...ALIVE! He really looked like he was recovering and getting stronger. I lost my Father to colon cancer and watched it diminish him cruelly for 8 years(one of the reasons I really wanted to help Boyd out), so I can tell the difference between dying of cancer and recovering from it. He looked really good, so the news of his passing is just so...shocking and disheartening. I feel really lucky to have had the brief moment in time spent with him. I'll never forget him. He was the first internet modeler I discovered and subscribed to. I put him in the top tier of KZfaq modelers along with Lou Dalmaso, Models by Chris and you, Interstellar Modeler. RIP Boyd Crompton I did enjoy your video and think your dioramas, busts and paintings are exceptional. I hope you do well at the art show, my friend. Peace.
