This movie is spot on. Take it from someone who survived several narcs and sociopaths as a child, when I couldn't escape. Instead of finding power for themselves, the weakest ones will try and steal power from others, whether it's through control, violence or both those things. It's damn near impossible to feel like you're not crazy when abusive people know that ruining your credibility is how they keep you isolated and attached to them. I'm not saying any of this for pity btw, I'm saying this as a word of caution: know your worth, and know your strength, because abusive people can see it, and these cowards will exploit it.

I love this film but I think it’s more symbolic than literal. I think the invisible man is shown as Adrian is just a stand in to represent trauma. Trauma (in this case, maybe also PTSD) is the actual invisible man. It only appears AFTER her abuser "dies", even though Cecilia is no longer in physical danger, the mental danger begins - queue the Invisible Man. The Invisible Man, like PTSD, is a clear and present danger and can "attack" the person at any moment (in a bathroom, in a job interview, in a room full of people) but that no one can see but us. It only affects Cecilia at first - it follows her, stalks her, taunts her, and hurts her but ultimately it hurts those around her as well - it destroys her closest relationships and makes all of the people around her unsafe until they are unsafe. That's what untreated PTSD does too. It's only when Cecilia addresses her trauma (dawns Adrian's optical suit) that she can end/destroy it's hold over her. It's a great film. It doesn't necessarily promote healthy healing...I mean you never see Cecilia in therapy... but I don't think it's meant to be aspirational, just a thought-provoking thriller/action film.
