The iCade came out before Apple really had official controller support. So as a workaround, its essentially read as a keyboard. Which is why it works with specific apps from that time that were designed for it but not Sonic. Im guessing the stick is essentially a Direction Key, which would explain Temple Run+. I believe it works with the Mame app, if you can get that on there. Also love that it has legit arcade controls. I replaced the restrictor plate on mine at some point with a 4 way one from my local barcade.

fun fact: for some reason on ios back then, the OS provided no viable way for games to detect whether keyboard keys were held or released. so as a workaround, each action on the icade maps to two keys: one for the initial press, and one for the release it's a pretty cool hack but definitely meant that devs had to go out of their way to support this device, making it even less likely to work on modern games. this thing was ahead of its time for sure in terms of being a controller for ios

I, too, was an early adopter of the initial iPad releases. I was among the first generation of iPad kids. My mother got one for free as a work incentive thing. We were meant to share it among my siblings, but I was the only one that ever had any desire to use it. And use it, I did. Whenever I was at home, my trusty Pad was within my grasp. Many a PopularMMOs video was watched on that screen. Many a crappy mobile game was played. I kept the original Flappy Bird on that thing until it finally broke after well over half a decade of use. They don't make 'em like they used to. We had a lot more grit back then, I think.

@@emmawagner8915Apple products have insanely long lives. They are and have been one of the few companies that provide software updates LONG after the device was released. The newest iOS version JUST NOW stopped supporting the base iPhone X. The XR and above are still supported. That’s why Apple products hold their value so much better than Android devices, which sometimes lose software support and I’m not even kidding, like 2 or maybe 3 years after release unless you choose the most popular ones.

I can tell you who in fact does care about iPads in this day and age: Pilots. Foreflight is a super powerful "Electronic Flight Bag" including flight planning, electronic charts, and logbook stuff. It's only available for iOS and iPadOS, and thus makes iPad minis super common among pilots because it's the perfect size between the full size iPad and an iPhone.

Okay, tell me if I get this right. So Scott's Stash is slowly becoming "less effort Scott the Woz" (less effort being some effort but not max effort), mixed with Scott and friends, just doing whatever, with some bloopers every now and then. Meanwhile the main Scott the Woz channel is slowly getting more and more effort put in until it eventually gets so similar to the production value of an actual TV show that it gets nominated for an Emmy, which it has a 60% chance of winning. Scott's Snippets also exists as an official clip channel. On top of ALL OF THIS, Scott apologizes constantly to US for not uploading frequently. HOW DOES THIS MAN EXIST AND WHY IS HE NOT BEING STUDIED FOR A CURE TO LAZINESS?!

I had one of these and what I learned when looking into compatibility is that the controller was a complete hack. It’s actually a keyboard with the buttons mapped to certain keys. That’s why games have such spotty compatibility, because they’d have to hard code the bindings just for this one accessory. This was before Apple built official controller support into iOS.
