I saw them about twenty times. When they were relatively sober, they were a very good, very tight rock band. You never knew what you'd get, but they were always entertaining

Always fun to remember that two of my favorite band were banned from performing on SNL (The other being Elvis Costello, but that ban was later lifted). Westerberg also later performed on SNL as a solo act. I feel like the group attempted to recapture some of the glory of this video with the video for Can't Hardly Wait. That video is also in black and white, but it does feature the members of the band... sitting around doing nothing. And yet, it doesn't hit the same way as the Bastards of Young video. I think the concept and execution match the song so perfectly, it's hard to recapture that again. Great video!

Saw them open for Keith Richards & The X-Pensive Winos , they sang happy birthday to him - hilarious! The late 80's was a hellish time for music & having The Replacements around to fuck up all that corporate shit was great. Much thanx for this, Luv your channel.

What video did Todd mention this in? I fucking love Todd in the shadows. I was going to type out his name as an acronym and I just realized it spells out TITS

Ive seen them in multiple places multiple times. Ive seen them awful I've seen them where they made me cry, but one of my favorite times was at city gardens on tim tour where they played like five songs then they started talking requests for the rest of the night. 45 minutes trying to figure out how to play walk this way, almost trying to play Xanadu. One of my favorite nights

My first live Replacements show was their last (The ‘91 Chicago fiasco) - until again at Riot Fest in CO 2013 (?). ❤ Great choice! Really well done.

Does anyone ever notice that the speaker in the Bastards video is sitting upside down?

@@ItsMusicVideoTime Cool! I'm surprised you haven't made a video on Michel Gondry yet. My other two suggestions would be a video on Fatboy Slim's Praise You and a video on Cake's Short Skirt/Long Jacket. I find it interesting that the latter has different versions shot on different locations, there's even an L.A. version that supposedly features Weird Al that I can't find anywhere

Listen to the new mixes of "Tim" and "Don't Tell a Soul/Dead Man's Pop" - far better than that 80s overproduced sound that plagued their recordings.

This is one of the few bands that I can't really listen to anymore cause I freaking overheard them to the point of exhaustion. It's one of my favorite bands, but I could literally sing acapella their last four albums and not miss a word or a note. Honestly, I get that their history is very suited to their ethos, but I really wish they had hit REM/U2 levels of success. They were that good.

the SNL thing is sooo blown out of proportion ! paul only said ''come on f&cker'' so Bob wouldn't miss his queue ! it was hard to hear over the music, hardly anyone else besides lorne heard it ,, and gosh a R&R band playing drunk or on weed ?? i must clutch my pearls because who ever heard of such a thing..

Hot tip: Bib’s guitar being out of tune on SNL was probably because he was hastily handed on seconds before air after breaking his own. Something similar happened to Jimmy Page at the Liveaid concert. Zeppelin members did an impromptu reunion on stage with dirk Phil Colin’s playing drums. Page was handed a guitar as he strode on stage to find it out of tune as he started playing. Second comment: you distinctly claimed the stereo in the Bastards of Young video was on cinder blocks then subsequently mentioned the milk crates later once the footage was shown revealing the crates. You might want to edit your voiceover.

I appreciate you for fact checking me. I went over my script and it looks like I was quoting the initial concept Jeff Ayeroff had for the music video as the original setting was to be inside a college student's dorm room that would have had concrete blocks. Its still possible the video is in the perspective of a college student, but the shooting location was in director Randy Skinner's apartment instead and I guess she herself used milk cartons for the turntable. I do mention there being differences in concept to final output as well.

In the video, the speaker is hooked up wrong; it's out of phase. Meaning, when the kick drum hits, you can see it move BACKWARD, which is pretty sad nobody caught it. But - that's the Mats...

He would have to pay for the right to do that or get sued. “FairPlay” laws dictate you can use 4second clips of audio or video for free for educational purposes. Do you understand why now?
