I bought an Italian CD bootleg of this show in ‘94-a great find for a fan who discovered the band about 18 months after this show. I’ll never understand the lack of love in some quarters for the songs from All Shook Down. That version of Happy Town! As good as any song in the set!

Hi Bob, I was at this show. That was my 10th Mats show. It was really windy (go figure, it was chicago) so I stood in the back with the loudmouths. I bought tix today to see them here in Denver in April (2015). I'm looking forward to it, but it will be hard to top drinking pitchers of Long Island Iced Teas in Cam's with Bobby, Tommy and Chris before their show at Mabel's in Champaign, or shooting pool with the boys after a show in Rockford, IL. The Rockford show was on June 7, 1989 at the Coronado Theatre. After the show, a few of us went and drank beers and played pool with the 'Mats at some bar within a block of the Coronado, but I don't remember the name of that place. I have my ticket from that show and many others still.

Surfercrow, "Bent" and "Another Girl,..." are the 2 best songs on this disc. Did anyone know Johnette Napolitano sang backup on their last album " All Shook Down"? Specifically you can hear her really well on "Someone Take The Wheel" It is reported (by Paul) that after the sessions, she left and Paul never saw her again! This is not hard to believe if you ever met her. She is an amazing person!

She sings the co-lead vocal on "My Little Problem". Westerberg kept wanting her to do additional vocal takes but she'd sorta had enough. So she told Westerberg that she was going out to get some cigarettes - but she actually went to the airport and flew back to her then home in England. Classic!

@mlwsf
@mlwsf 3 жыл бұрын
@@scottt5484 But did they? Some would argue that they met their peak with Bob. The stuff with Slim, as much as some of us may like it, didn't really go anywhere did it? And even with all of that said they had their little reunion (sort of) with the Riot Fest shows and in true Mats style cancelled tour shortly thereafter. Never mind the fact that in the dude's original argument he completely discounts Exile on Main Street which most critics and fans would agree was the Stones best record but to say there was nothing great about the Stones after Brian Jones is just absurd. It may have effectively ended with Some Girls which would have been a valid point.

@@mlwsf I also think he has a point in that Chris had quit and Slim had replaced Bob who died. They had their Ill-fated run with major corporate labels and large venues. Paul was starting to write more introspective less “punk” songs that he knew would alienate the hardcore fans and from what I’ve read he felt it was time to let it die.
