This show helped me survive 15 years in IT with some of my sanity intact. People often try to tell me "Oh i love nerdy characters, I watch the Big Bang Theory!" I then gently but firmly correct them and suggest if the want to know what REAL super nerds/IT people are like, watch The IT Crowd. So much better in every way.

Yes. I've been in several "IT Departments" at universities, schools, etc. They are ALWAYS in the basement, a converted closet (really!), or some other out of the way place that no one else wants to work in, and there were ALWAYS piles of equipment, parts, spools of wire, and usually a shelf with nerdy collectibles.

The first time I watched that part I nearly spit out my drink, Knowing that I more than once was probably one of the clueless and confused calling IT..... It only took them asking me that once for me to realize I need to do this every time before I call them ......

@@Unitedaerthe Our IT support centre had a voicemail for people to leave requests for assistance. It directed people to our knowledge base articles, mentioned if any systems were having problems, etc. I SOOO wanted to start the voicemail system with “Hello, IT … Have you tried turning it off then on again?” Like the tape recorder in the show. Back in the day we could even have programmed a DECTalk voice response system to say that, then if they followed up ask if it was plugged in … lol.

@@Unitedaerthe To be fair, I once called my cable company support line because my PVR / cable box was doing wonky things. Randomly jumping between channels, etc. I thought I had to get it replaced …. until he said “Have you tried changing the batteries in your remote”. (Insert Picard face palm image here). So even we IT professionals can be “that guy” on the other end of the line. The remote was working enough to turn everything on and do some things, but the batteries were too weak to properly do other things like change channels.
@kevinL5425
@kevinL5425 29 күн бұрын
@@Unitedaerthe As to why we asked people to turn it off and on again, it’s because it worked! As people work with computers over time, it may use up resources, or some program you started a couple days ago might not shut down properly and may be messing things up, or any myriad of other problems could happen. Shutting down the computer then turning it on again resets all that and clears up most of the problems. It turns off unused programs, clears out and resets all the memory, closes any files the computer might be holding open on the hard drive, etc. I know of some people that never actually turned off their computer (they just closed their laptop and put it in “sleep” mode). A proper shutdown and restart periodically did wonders for their computer.

If you liked The IT Crowd then you'll love these: The Mighty Boosh - has Noel Fielding and Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade. Classic comedy. Spaced - Before the Cornetto trilogy there was a 2 season show called...Spaced. Same actors and director. Garth Marenghi's Darkplace - has Matt Berry, who is also in The IT Crowd S2. And if you're feeling super ambitious you could try out Luxury Comedy - it's Noel Fielding's weird surrealistic artsy experimental show. I love it. But it's a bit out there.

100% can confirm this. "The IT Crowd" was filmed at Pinewood Studios & I was in that audience many times. Most British sitcoms (Some US) usually try to keep the audience track from the studio in the edit but if an audience laughs through a characters next line it has to be shortened which gives "the canned laughter" effect. There is a large attempt at trying to keep the audience laughter in the record otherwise what's the point of filming in front of an audience really

I'm a network engineer. I manage all the computers that move the data packets between computers. Everyone LOVES to blame the network for any and all problems. 95% of my job was proving that the network wasn't the issue.

So glad you’re watching this! The guy that presses the profanity button in “Calamity Jen” is called Danny Wallace. He’s written a few books, one called Yes Man that was turned into a film starring Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel. I’d recommend it if you’re looking for something to react to 🙂

One of the most quoted series in the world. It is just so brilliant (and relatable when you are actually in IT ;-) ).

One bit of trivia, the bit when moss and Roy go to the stress seminar/talk and going through the gaps of the chairs and sitting and moss moving his chair and hitting Roy's fingers is tribute/homage to Laurel and Hardy's film sons of the desert where they did the same thing at the start of the film. Worth watching if you haven't seen it

In my repeated viewings, I always get amazed by the set designs. Roy's tshirts are just top notch and the posters on the walls as well. Notice EVERYONE except Roy wears business formals but Roy always comes to office as a rebel

One of my favorite shows of all time. Me and my friends bonded over this throughout high school as each season released. It's fantastic all the way to the end, you should watch the rest!

Interesting note. In 50/50, the middle 'Mexican' in 'Messy Joe's' is Graham Linehan, the writer of the series.

49:54 - BODY SNATCHERS? The scene in which Judy spots Roy from across the street and begins pointing at him is a direct parody of the 1978 'Invasion of ;The Bodysnatchers' remake end scene.
