I love the story behind the XJ220 Van. It wasn't made by some millionaire nut job, but the team that built the XJ220. The Jaguar needed to test the drivetrain of the XJ220, but didn't want the press to know that they were building a Supercar, so they stuck it in the back or a Ford Transit to test it in public. There is a story that some of the engineers took it out on a Friday night, and drag raced some cars at the traffic lights. After the XJ220 was launched, the van was dumped out back of the Jaguar factory. It was eventually restored, and made MORE POWERFUL! It had around 650bhp at the time of the Top Gear drag race, hence why it smoked the Holden.

fun fact, that tramsit was actually a jaguat test mule for the xj220 itself, as when they were making it, they hadnt got finished with the chassis but wanted to test the engine (much less development was required, as it in of itself is derived from the engine used in the mg metro 6r4 group b car, and THAT engine is essentially a rover 3.5l alu block v8 with 2 cyliners chopped off!) so naturally the engineers took their shop delivery van and chucked the engine in it, reason being that a van is supprisingly easy to put an entire engine and transaxle from a mid wngined car into, as its mechanically simple and easy to cut out a big hole. its still on the road to this day, not sure who owns it but its sometimes seen at big car events over here, think one year it did a run up goodwood!

Downloaded it off the repo, I think it's really got some potential. Even with my shit skills and bending the front suspension on a curb, I managed a 1:42 on Laguna Seca.

If you were to put the engine a lot closer to the front seatrs, and the fuel cell closer to the rear, you would make it a lot more stable I think (weight distribution). Also a set of tires made for the track would 100% help!

Another video where clarkson more accurately showed turbo lag was with the evo FQ400 i think it was. Where some other normal car started driving away from him both taking off from highway speed. Then eventually he hit that surge point and probly near doubled his speed in seconds..

Think of it this way- the engine in the 220 sounds so bad, top gear thought people wouldn't notice that it was put in a Transit van.

Is it just me or does the bolide with the back removed kinda look like a weird Ute. Feels like the perfect opportunity to make a front engine bolide Ute mod. Then again I’m not sure what can fit in the front of a bolide, maybe the pigeon 3 cyl engine. Also I noticed that when you went round lasagna seca the brake was being lightly activated, it’s a common thing with brake pedals in racing sims, all you need to do is add a little bit of dead zone to the top of the pedal activation zone, it actually does help as it can cause slower lap times.

When I installed the mod off the repo, it loads and lets me rev the engine but I can't actually drive, the speedometer/tach disappears, and a log message appears in the console which I suspect to be relevant: "No main controller found, adding a dummy controller" This is the only mod I have active at the moment and I have just done a cache clean and validation. The normal van works fine but the moment I switch to the XX217 chassis or load the preset it breaks. Any ideas? Was it just really bad timing on release, getting approved for the repo right before 0.32 came out and broke it?

Just one piece of advice, in 3D software you are not suppose to work with triangles but rather quads. This is because quads can be split horizontaly and verticallly and allow for flow to be specified between the faces. This allows you to perform loopcuts which you cannot perform when you have triangles. So try to avoid working with triangulated meshes. There are operations in blender to turn triangles back into quads. Just select all objects go to edit mode select all the geometry within the objects then press F3 and search for Tris to Quads. Once the mesh is back to being quads it will now allow you do loop cuts and many other operations without problems and apply modifiers like the subdivision modifier, also manipulating meshes becomes hell of a lot easier. Another little tip make sure when you put two vertices together you actually merge them, don't have them be seperate. It can cause problems. To check if you have this anywhere in your model you can perform the operation merge by distance which is found when you press CTRL + M and selecting that operation from the menu that pops up. Sometimes, there might be vertices that are inside each other by mistake and they are really suppose to be seperate so I would be careful, but usually this is because of an accident. So the vertices won't be perfectly aligned, which means the merge by distance with such low threshold should not cause these ones to merge together. This also happens sometimes when the modeler decides to have faces split upon export when they are marked sharp so when imported in a engine in produces a sharp seam, but before it was exported it wasn't split, so merge it back up is the way to go, the model already will have sharp seams specified so you can choose to export with the sharp seams to be split when exported. This ensures that the mesh doesn't break when its shifted around.
