The handle on the Jang needs to be redesigned to be over the middle of the seeder and they should put some kind of weight over the front wheel. The wheels should be redesigned too. They slide too much.

For what the hoss seeder costs put that money towards a Jang. Hoss seeder is junk. Been there done that, moving on. Now here's the long answer. The hoss sucks on any seeds that aren't perfectly round. By the time you get a hole big enough to not jam with oblong seeds,. You are double feeding. And the cheap plastic bevel gears that turn the seed plate that break if you get any dirt or dust in it anywhere. Not even fiber reenforced plastic. Like pop bottle plastic.

Thanks Jessie, when I bought the jang I purchased the double disc option and have never used the shoe as we were always planting into trashy beds. Its certainly not a tool that will cut through debris but will push it out of the way and bounce around plant stumps. I have the disc installed on the triple jang and I feel that it was worth the investment.

Good Vid. Would love to see another test this spring when you're drop'n real seed, planting a full bed see how it works. Agree, wish it was standard on the Jang. As for the price, my brother-in-law explained it to me. It's a volume issue. If they were selling 100,000 units a year on that, the price would (maybe) come down. competition would come in and force it down. It's why so many of the coolest farming tools. Green Harvester, Jang Seeders, Six Point Seeders and the Terrateck stuff like the wheel hoe...are all mostly worth it .... but, pretty dang pricey.

@@notillgrowers I'd love to see a trial/troubleshooting video with the double row plow shoe if you have one kicking around. I've been using the Earthway for twenty-five years and I always had trouble with sod or excess crop residue loading up in front of the shoe. This spring I bought the Hoss garden seeder with the double disk opener and I love it. It had no problem cutting through loads of crop residue. I think the Jang should have used a drag chain like the Hoss. I could see the drag -closer loading up on you. Thanks for the review,I'm glad I didn't buy the Jang.
@notillgrowers
@notillgrowers 4 жыл бұрын
We’re still working with that hoss to get a good idea of how to feel about it. The hopper leaves a lot to be desired and honestly that drag chain has been burying stuff too deep for my liking, but like I said, still trialing it. We lIke our earthway. It’s a good tool for the price, but I say you should try a Jang before you say you’re happy you’ve never bought one. It’s really an impressive tool--and that’s coming from a once huge doubter.

To me it seems like the entire device needs a weight tray , something you can put a brick in to make it cut . Your description of its use since the machine is unbalanced in its weight distribution . Anything that has bearings the bearings wear out I mean think about it you have to replace some wheell hub bearings on a car eventually.
@notillgrowers
@notillgrowers 4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say it’s unbalanced. The Jang is just not meant to have all the pressure land on that disc--I think that could ultimately damage this particular machine. The pressure is in the push and the weight of the machine is in the front. I think a couple times in the video you can see me actually lifting up the back wheel because all the weight is on the front one, just not in the center. I think a hand usher drill would be awesome, though, and that’s where you’d want the weight over the disc for sure

Double Disc Opener Allows you to seed into heavier soils, or when some debris is present. For use with all Jang JP Series seeders and the Jang TD-1 Precision Seeder. NOTE: Not intended for seeding into beds with excessive debris or to be used in "no-till" systems.

Thanks for a great review! I love the honesty in your review. Is it good? Yes. Is it $100 good? No. Perhaps Diego and Curtis will pick up the undertone here in that the marketed product is flawed, and this is a solid fix for that. Change their production model and offer the double at $50 to renovate already purchased models.

It's very easy to pull prices out of thin air. These things simply don't cost as little as you think to manufacture. If I was to sell it for $50 (including shipping) then I would have to be buying it for around $20 and that isn't even close to the actual cost.

I just got the double disc. It seemed to throw move more soil than I was used to with the standard shoe. Maybe that a height adjustment? I just set it the same as the shoe. But I didn't have to stop once to clear out any debris, whereas normally I'd have to unclog the shoe like every 15-20 feet if there was a lot of residue in the bed.
@notillgrowers
@notillgrowers 4 жыл бұрын
I think it’s possibly the height adjustment. I noticed that too then brought it up a but and it was perfect. Still tinkering. That depth may come in handy from time to time. But the clearing thing--totally. I have not stopped once in three beds. I love that. I also think it will help in covering the full bed.

Jesse do you normally have issues with slugs? I see a potential problem due to slugs eating baby plants after sprouting from where I'm from... if I plant an established seedling than the plant usualy survives, but seeding directly is challenging. So please give me some feedback if you do have slug problems how you deal with those.

@@notillgrowers There is. I run them on a jp-3. They've been a huge improvement for not grabbing root balls and rocks. Still expensive, but the jp-3 was pretty much a bulldozer when I had standard shoe's. @notillgrowers
@notillgrowers 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry if that wasn’t clear. The shoe catches on root balls, the disc rolls through them or over them (though sometimes around them), making it easier and more efficient to sow into rougher ground. If you’ve ever sown a bed with roots with the shoe, it’s a pain.
