I just loved how cool and calm Nishikori was for almost the whole match,, winning points like its no big deal, in contrast with Nole who was shouting, celebrating a single point,. Nishikori only celebrated at the end as he should.

In round 16 against Raonic (6th) in 5 sets (4:19) and in quater-finals against Wawrinka (4th) in 5 sets (4:15). The win (it was not easy) in the semi-finals against Djokovic (1st) in 4 sets (2:52) was therefore more impressive.

@@huzcer prime nishikori wasn't losing to old men pass their prime, or no name players, or get knocked out early in the grand slams that often, like a lot top players of the current gen. thats why the current gen is called the weakest era of all time. novak even admitted that he was no longer at his prime, and yet he says he sees no serious competition among the current gen unlike the previous era when he was at his prime. he only says that alcaraz has potential but still not on the level that he will be considered serious competition. thats about it.

@@huzcer you do know that young nadal and young novak were in the federer era right? when he was in his mid 20s? young nadal and young novak will easily wipe the floor with any of the current gen competition, who are all really weak. btw, 30 years old for an athlete is where they are going off their prime. like novak said, his prime was when he was in his mid 20s, not in his early 30s

insane. seemed like he kept getting sharper as the match went on. usually novak is the one who starts to dissect his opponents but it seemed like he couldnt get kei to crack at all. also some of the shots he hit were ridiculous

I was also a fan of Nishikori but rising overnight is difficult but more difficult to maintain that position. That Novak does.

4:24 and 4:54 you can see the difference in the reaction time, djoko reacted faster, once his opponent hit that kind of ball he started to running but Kei reacted slower in the same situation, the djoko ball was better though, anyway this didn't stop Kei from winning, incredible match from both

Despite his small, thin body, he has beaten players bigger than him. It's a great sense of style. If only he had a little better physique, he might have won a Grand Slam. I vividly remember when he beat Prime Murray in the US. At that moment, he was the strongest returner with the best stroke in the world. Even against the winner, Wawrinka, Nishikori was dominant until he tired. He was one of the most versatile players on tour, one of the coolest, most entertaining tennis players.

A little bit of a shame how he managed to win his "greatest achievement" as the intro calls it, the bronze olympic medal. He was facing an exhausted Nadal who had played (and won) the doubles final the previous night (not Kei's fault, of course), and when Nadal was starting to get into the match, he "panicked" and pulled the old 20 min toilet break and came back into the court with new clothes and seemingly showered iirc. Nadal was really pissed by this and quickly felt out of rythm again. I guess every bit counts when you're competing and it worked, but it was a big disrespect towards Nadal. I'm glad now this is better regulated. Very talented player anyway, it's very enjoyable to see him play

⁠@@MaiqelI’m a big Nadal fan but I think he was just exhausted and frustrated over losing to Del Potro. I doubt Nishikori did any real foul play. If I remember correctly, Nadal apologized at net after the match too. It’s probably the only match where I’ve ever seen Nadal’s emotions make him lose. But it kinda makes sense that it was a bronze medal match; guys like Nadal who have dominated the sport, they don’t want to play for third place. They want to win the Gold; anything less is a waste of time.

The majority of those matches he didn't claim a set and there were a decent amount of hammerings in there. Djokovic, as he often does with players, figured out how to beat him after a few matches and just did it again and again.

Djokovic today destroys this Kei in straight sets. It may have been more difficult to hit a winner against Djokovic back then but it was far easier to win a point against him.

As always. djokobitch lose the match because he was not 100%. It is very hard to beat djokobitch when he is 100% fit. Tha’s why he have less fans than Roger and Rafa. He think he is the best of all. What he didn’t know is that he was beaten by Roger and Rafa constantly when Roger and Rafa were as fit as they were. He only manage to beat when the two were on the declining part of their career. In short, djokobitch has less mielage while Riger and Rafa had more. In conclussion, with the same mileage, djokobitch has less chance of beating the two greats. Anybody can argue but I am just looking at the facts (records). Look at their early career records. Look at Pete Sampras at his prime. Then what happened to him when Roger came into the scene. djokobitch is just lucky that the current gen is not as good as Roger and Rafa. Also, djokobitch, in AO 2023 draw was suck. US open main draw for the bitch was a gift. He fought BUMS! Whereas the other half were all the players who can beat the bitch fairly: MEDVEDEV, ZEVEREV, SINNER, ALCARAZ. Us open 2023 main draw was a shame. The bitch looks incredible in the eyes of casual tennis fans. Sometimes records sucks! THE QUALITY OF OPPONENTS MATTERS WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT GREATNESS. If we remove ALCARAZ, SINNER, ZEVEREV, MEDVEDEV, RUNE in the tour, djokobitch can win almost all the tournament he will enter into. Is it a good record, of course it is. Is it great? For me, it isn’t. That’s almost exactly what happened in the aUs Open 2023. Although he fought the B side of medvedev. The thing that is not very nice with the bitch is: everytime heloses, he always have a problem with his fitness as if he is fit no one can beat him. REALLY?!

Attitude after a match does not make up for poor attitude during the game because what happens during the game affects your opponent, something he is most likely very aware of.

I’m sorry I totally disagree. Off court he is charming and intelligent. On court he is frequently very angry with everyone and at the end of the match the acting mask briefly appears, win or loose, until he shakes hands with the umpire. Then the mask comes down and we see his elation after a big win or tears after a big loss...
