In this two-part special, Florence (Marla Gibbs) is looking for a new job, and George (Sherman Hemsley) is suspiciously happy to help her.
From Season 7, Episode 19 'Florence's New Job: Part 1' - George woos hotel magnate Arthur Claymore to get his business. However, Claymore offers Florence a well-paying executive job that includes awarding dry cleaning contracts, so George selfishly tries to persuade her to accept the job.

Saturday September 11th 2021 Marla Gibbs and Jackee Harris from 227 were my favorite female sitcom actresses ! They don’t make sitcoms like those anymore ! Those were the real good old days with ALL IN THE FAMILY and WHATS HAPPENING , THE GOLDEN GIRLS , GOOD TIMES , SANFORD AND SON , WKRP IN CINCINNATI , and THE JEFFERSONS and 227 ! I wish I could turn back the Hands of time and they were young and healthy and happy again ! They were super great actors ! I sorely miss the ones that have passed away ! ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️😔😔😔😢😢😢

Sarina C Grant was my first drama/speech teacher at Immaculata High School. She managed to get us out of class early one day and I was cutting the fool in the hallway. She walked right up to me and said, "Eddie, you mess this up for me and I'll bust your ass!" Wherever you are, Sabrina (Sylvia), I have good memories of you and thank you for giving me a deep appreciation of theatre and speech.

This was a pilot for a spin-off series called "Checking In", where Florence worked as the executive housekeeper of a swanky hotel. The show was funny, but alas, it didn't do well in the ratings.

Luckily for her, she was happily welcomed back on The Jeffersons..A similar situation happened on 227 when they tried to spin off Jackee..

@@edreid7872 I suspect she had some kind of clause in her contract that allowed her to return if her new series bombed. I was glad to see her return to "The Jeffersons", but the explanation struck me as kind of hokey. She supposedly returned because the hotel where she was working burned down.

@@citizenken7069 She did. The series also didn't work out because it was during a writer's strike so the episodes filmed could not be rewritten before shooting.

@@sha11235 Yes, I saw your comment to that effect on another thread. I remember a writers' strike, but I didn't remember it being the same year as when her show debuted (that was a long time ago, and my memory isn't what it used to be). Anyway, that makes sense.

I liked the fact that Florence knew how to speak for herself in defense of what was decent. I am saddened though, that some feel that being a sister means one can be a crook. How to can you offer your manager a tip in the financial department when your manager makes more than yourself? The tip being of stolen money.

I did like her secretary she was good. This could have been a Benson type spin off but definitely needed fighting up. The last half of the show was much funnier than when she arrived. But the strike killed the ability to retool it like Facts of Life plus CBS may have been nervous about the main vehicle The Jefferson’s losing steam. Every body learned from The Ropers spin off of Three’s Company and didn’t want to repeat it.

I can see why it was canceled. Forence was the only funny one in this one. The others weren't and she didn't have chemistry with any of the new cast members. Poor writing too. She was funnier on the Jeffersons. The spin off was a no no.

I liked the show myself. Larry Linville made a good antagonist for Florence (his character on this show made Frank Burns seem charming!). I agree that the writing could have been better, though.

The problem was that they filmed during a writer's strike so episodes could not be rewritten before shooting. If the writing was bad, they could not improve it.

The writing was not bad. You might like her better as a maid, but this show could have been successful. Other shows were given a real chance.
