Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
"There must be some kind of way out of here"
Said the joker to the thief
"There's too much confusion
I can't get no relief
Businessmen they drink my wine
Plowmen dig my earth
None will level on the line
Nobody offered his word"
Hey!
[Verse 2]
"No reason to get excited"
The thief, he kindly spoke
"There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But, uh, but you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us stop talkin' falsely now
The hour's getting late
Hey!
[Guitar Solo]
Hey!
[Verse 3]
All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants too
Well, uh, outside in the cold distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl
Hey!
[Outro]
All along the watchtower
All along the watchtower

There are many more... Duane Allman, Paul Kossov, lots of rhythm guitarists (virtuosity is not a synonym of being the best in guitar playing). See Keith Richards or those who use finger picking styles like Ry Cooder or Jorma Kaukonen. I watched a video where Hendrix played an acoustic and he wasn't really good. He played an entire blues. He even had to restart at a certain point. K. Richards has a unique touch on acoustic but he will never be better than, for example, Ry Cooder or David Lindley...

Bob Dylan loved this version of the song so much that he played the Jimi version since his death. Lots of people have written songs for others and you don't realize how often that actually happens. Jimi just so happened to be the man that was meant to record this song. It takes a really humble person to recognize things like this with their own song.

Not many people know it, but Jimi Hendrix was perfectionist when it comes to this song. Studio people tried to rush him (because time and tape were both expensive) but story has it that he had over 50 takes on this song with just the guitar parts to make it absolutely perfect, the way he wanted it to be in his mind. Safe to say, you can hear it. Absolute perfection in every possible way.

Indeed, this album is a staple in terms of production, easily one of the 10 greatest rock albums of the 60s, along with Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Ummagumma, or Tommy. Jimi infuriated some staff members because they didn’t understand his ideas, so he had to go to the control room to make the adjustments and to mix the sounds by himself. Noel Redding got fed up and quit shortly after. But this album is one of the greatest landmarks in psychedelic experimental music, and a clear precursor for progressive rock and heavy metal. “1983 A Merman I Should Turn To Be” is Jimi’s opus magnum.

My mum met and shook hands with Jimi in a club in London in the late 60s. He was wearing a flame orange satin suit and a hat with a feather in it. She shook hands! When she told me my response was "and you WASHED IT"? She met quite a few back then as a band whose name has just fallen from my mind, had a roadie who lived in the same flats as us. I remember her (tho she wishes I didn't) going to see Ravi Shanka in Covent Garden whilst she was wearing an orange sari! Peace dudes especially the old uns from back then. Rock on; I hope to.

It may seem a silly notion but Dylan struggled to find commercial success with his songs initially and relied on Hendrix and Peter, Paul and Mary to get his tracks on the radio. I wish he was here.”

Dylan has described his reaction to hearing Hendrix's version: "It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day." In the booklet accompanying his Biograph album, Dylan said: "I liked Jimi Hendrix's record of this and ever since he died I've been doing it that way ... Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it's a tribute to him in some kind of way."

Business men - they drink my wine Plowmen dig my earth None of them along the line Know what any of it is worth." "No reason to get excited, " The thief - he kindly spoke, "There are many here among us Who feel that life is but a joke But you and I we've been through that And this is not our fate So let us not talk falsely now The hour's getting late." All along the watchtower Princess kept their view While all the women came and went Bare-foot servants too Outside in the cold distance A wild cat did growl Two riders were approaching And the wind began to howl, hey.

Damn, what an exciting time it was in those days to be alive. I wasn't a radical, and I loved my country. I played in a rock and roll band, with some recognition, and knew some of the serious rockers of the time that are now considered the pros of that time. I married in 69 and had 4 daughters, and have lots of grandchildren, Sometimes they asked me "How was it grandpa ?" +ThatsArtastic when i first started to learn how to play guitar and other musical instruments, I couldn't read music, then I decided to study music but I had to learn how to read and write it which kind of took the fun out of it. Music was better when you can't read or write it because it forces you to just let go and play from your ears and heart. So yeah, jimi was an amazing musician who played using his own feeling :)

Bonham and Moon were the kings of their era, and Mitch was in a band named after the lead guitarist/singer. If they were simply named "The Experience", he and Redding would be involved in the GOAT conversation, in my opinion. Everyone focuses on Jimi, its kind of a shame, all due respect to guitar God Jimi.

Dylan has described his reaction to hearing Hendrix's version: "It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day." In the booklet accompanying his Biograph album, Dylan said: "I liked Jimi Hendrix's record of this and ever since he died I've been doing it that way... Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it's a tribute to him in some kind of way."
