The final moments of HBO's "The Jinx" where Robert Durst seemingly confesses to three murders on a live mic while in the bathroom.

If you have watched the whole 6 episodes, you would know that Robert has done this before. He was caught talking to himself while doing the first interview and the lawyer stopped him. Call me crazy, but there were a few parts in The Jinx where I believed Durst's story and thought there was actually a possibility he could be telling the truth and actually be innocent. Then this scene came. I need to never serve on a jury lol
@jadedflames9 жыл бұрын
***** You absolutely should! It's the Jury's job to presume innocence, until the defendant is proven guilty with no room for doubt. Even if everyone else is talking about how obviously guilty he is, a jury is supposed to be impartial and look only at what evidence and testimony they are given. You just didn't see the evidence that proved it for you until the last scene.

+Rob Romeo He most probably thinks he IS innocent, hence why his ability to manipulate the truth is so convincing. Judging by the amount of weed he smokes, his troubling past and the way he speaks to himself, its likely he has severe schizophrenia and the other Robert Durst carried out the murders. Hes been rich and powerful enough to get away with it for so long, but the man is clearly not as smart as people make out. Using his own handwriting on the police tip? Leaving his microphone on TWICE accidentally? Changing his story constantly? This is How To Get Caught 101.

"There it is. You're caught" He said this in such a way like he always knew the letter would be something somebody would eventually piece together. He even mentioned in the doc prior how the letter was a huge piece of evidence and that the killer was stupid to leave such information behind for the police. This was soon followed up by "Arrest him." He's now playing out the events in his head that he thinks are about to happen, in other words preparing to be arrested and thinking about what to say, and what he says next is HUGE "i don't know what's in the house" I believe he say's this because there's something in one of the homes that's another big piece of evidence and he's basically practicing his wording before his arrest!! There's probably something in one of the homes that can be linked to him which is even worse then this letter! Another few random thoughts, Throughout the whole doc he refereed to himself as "bob durst" instead of referring to himself as "me" or "I". He's referring to himself as a third person. He does this throughout the documentary except when he's talking about his younger self prior to his mothers death. There's a clear dissociation there with who he thinks he is. Just a hunch, but his father could of killed his mother and the family could of covered it up. It would explain a lot. He does seem to resemble his father more so then his brothers do.
@ara11566 жыл бұрын
That's what I thought too. Playing the whole thing out in his mind, imagining them telling the officer to "arrest him", imaging himself saying "I'm having difficulty breathing" thinking of some medical emergency to get him out of that situation and escape

I noticed the 3rd person too. Always the sign of a wackadoo. His mother's death always seemed sinister to me. I think if she jumped on her own it was because of something with the father. Such a crazy wild documentary. There were so many times where I asked myself "HOW is this even real life?" I mean even films don't make up this stuff. He absolutely did not know his mic was on and this was absolutely him acknowledging to himself that he blew it. He has NO remorse for anything that he has done. It is truly terrifying. When he talks about DISMEMBERING and throwing a body away like trash with absolutely no emotion it sent chills up my spine. You could see his obvious discomfort when he is confronted with the two writing samples when he begins to touch his face and burp (which he scolds himself for in the bathroom) ... What is truly sad is that he will probably lawyer up with some of the best lawyers in the country once again and probably get off once more. This man needs to take responsibility and have the decency to tell Kathie's poor family where she is.

Shauna Rae I believe the dismembering he's referring to his old neighbor. Who the hell knows what he did to Kathie. My guess is either her body was put into some construction project (doesn't the family own construction company?) or something like a wood chipper or chemicals to break down the body. There was a famous murder in the 80s in Connecticut where a mans wife went missing but they found out he bought a chainsaw, freezer, and new bedsheets & rented a wood chipper. Someone saw a man matching his description with a wood chipper by a local river in the middle of a snowstorm. Less than 10% of human remains matching the missing wife were ever found.

While I did not think he was innocent ever when watching this series. The most telling part is when he confesses to cutting up and disposing of Black's body. Think about it for a second. Who in their right mind would choose to do that instead of calling the police, if he thinks he is innocent? And the fact that the jury didn't come to this conclusion is even scarier. Not one of them thought that cutting up a body is INSANELY suspicious for someone claiming self defence? Also, the fact that he ''doesn't remember which body part he cut off first''... Really? You're cutting up your so called ''best friend'' and you don't remember which part you cut off first? Something like that will be imprinted in your mind forever, especially if you're a normal, functioning human being who is forced into such a vile act.

That moment my jaw dropped. But i wasn’t surprised deep down. This man is a liar murderer manipulating everyone but not in the usual narcissistic way you expect it. This whole documentary he kept dropping easter eggs to him being guilty of all things. There was definitely something about him and his trauma going all the way to his father only caring about their name and business and mother he clearly loved, mysteriously falling/jumping from his childhood home roof and subsequent death and funeral and daddy/power issues that triggered a shift in him. Him mentioning his dominance over kathy wanting her independence or feuding with his brother doug taking over the family business when he couldn’t and not wanting anything disturbing his freedom of life. Everytime something or someone that could pose issue to that especially regarding using him for money and wealth he loathed, made him go to extremes measures. He hated having all that wealth and even admired his prison mates for building themselves from nothing compared to him being born with so much money already he saw as a burden. kathie his 1st wife that disappeared after she wanted a divorce and settlement, morris black his galveston neighbor he killed who probably found out about him when he came clean to his real identity and might have blackmailed when really finding out about his status and his old friend susie who was on hard times wanting money and the cops and DA in NYC getting to her to reopem the kathie case. He never wanted to leave trace of that. I wonder if they ever tested him for some sort of personality or severe mental disorder because he clearly isn’t just your average serial killer driven by killing more so by necessity of anyone’s who may want him to do things as Robert Durst the millionaire or man whom he clearly hated that part of him because of his unresolved trauma of what that meant to him. It’s almost like someone who never seeked therapy to understand why they have a pattern of anger towards such subject but just went way too far by killing those in his way instead. Very sad and interesting to watch unfortunately

Does anyone else think it's possible that instead of saying "arrest him", as it states in the subtitles, he instead says "the rest of them?" He says this right after he says "you can't imagine." To me, it sounds like he's meaning "you can't imagine the rest of the bodies I've racked up."

My mind was kinda made up when they found that list in the trash after his wife went missing, detailing items like...a shovel..etc... and that was pretty early on.. even with that list I was sitting on the fence, then throw in everything that came after, you'd have to be a fool to believe Durst. Seriously... a complete fool. When I completed the series, I was more surprised this was based on a true story... because how this guy got away with it, is beyond me.

"Reasonable doubt." A possibility that someone murdered, even a high possibility is not PROOF. I agree he's probably a several time murderer. But the jury didn't get enough proof to put him away as such. Reasonable doubt ensures that innocent people in very bad circumstances aren't "assumed" to be murderers.

Did they end up checking every house he ever lived in after the confession? Also, it is bizare that he started whispering to himself when he was mic'd up, he'd been told off about it before. Throughout the doc people were saying how smart he was, I think the majority of the time he just got extremely lucky!

“What the hell did I do… Killed them all of course.” Bob would have gotten away but in the end, his ego was his downfall. Not only did he like getting away with murder, but I think he enjoyed tricking people into thinking he was innocent and becoming friends with them even more.

The most chilling ending of a documentary ever
@guynoir59684 жыл бұрын
This is indeed chilling but it was edited and played out of order. From wikipedia: "[Unintelligible] I don't know what you expected to get. I don't know what's in the house. Oh, I want this. Killed them all, of course. [Unintelligible] I want to do something new. There's nothing new about that. [Inaudible - possibly "disaster."] He was right. I was wrong. The burping. I'm having difficulty with the question. What the hell did I do?"

What about the part "You have no idea" ? I'm curious about where that was in the original audio.
@matt0pz5082 жыл бұрын
The entire audio segment is him going over the previous conversation with Jarecki, realizing that Jarecki played him and won. Admitting he was caught, that the next step they'll arrest him. he can literally buy anything, so he saw something in the bathroom that caught his eye, like a paper towel dispenser (idk) & said "oh I want this". That had nothing to do with the admission, he was just momentarily distracted. Then he goes on "I'm having difficulty with the question".. that's not him preparing for a future conversation, he was having trouble with Jareckis questions bc for the first time, he knew no explanation he gave would be sufficient.. he was caught. Then he said "what the hell did I do", like why the hell did I agree to do this interview, what was I thinking. Finally he concedes that of course he killed them all, the only logical conclusion to be drawn.

I haven’t seen the entire series, was Robert Durst’s encephalitis ever brought up, and are they doing any brain imaging on him in prison? I believe there may be much to learn from studying his brain. This in no way excuses any of his actions or behaviors, it’s simply an opportunity to learn and possibly prevent this in the future. And how in the world do you kill a man, dismember the body, discard of the body, and be found innocent?

Haven't seen the full doc but to me it just sounds like he's having a conversation with himself. But not like a journal self reflection conversation. More like an imaginary scenario convo. I don't feel like it'd be too far a stretch for him to say he was simply imagining some scenarios about how further interviewing could play out.
@KTYewTube3 жыл бұрын
I thought this also. While he is pretty obviously the murderer, this little clip on its own doesn't necessarily mean he was the killer. He could have been speaking in a sort of exhasperated sense, thinking of how guilty he looked even though he wasn't. E.g. "Yeah you got me! I killed all of them!" But dear lord, it wasn't even the first time he messed up with a hot mic in this documentary. He could be such a dummy at times. Like hand writing the cadaver letter? I suppose he explained it (and seemingly incriminated himself further) by explaining his belief that block letters are all the same like print. Really? I'm not an expert and even I know block writing is going to convey your distinct writing tendencies. On another note, I actually feel bad for him to be recorded while he is alone in the bathroom. It seems like a real invasion of privacy and it seems pretty wrong to air it publicly for our entertainment. It seems like there should be something illegal about doing this. Though he probably signed something which meant he relinquished his rights if he had any. Anyway, overall of course he deserves to pay for his crimes, and he does seem pretty guilty. But I felt that playing the hot mic moments, while making for an awesome ending, seemed wrong.
