Being a step dad is no easy gig, I have taken responsibility over two of my wife’s children and have been in there lives for the past 6 years as well, since our daughter was 6 now 12, and our son was 15 months now 7, they now call me Dad, and I’ve earned that title in my opinion, we now have 4 kids total and their dad doesn’t have a presence in their lives at all, 6 months after I met their mom he decided to move away and has only seen them once in the last 6 years, he doesn’t provide any money nor does he call them frequent enough for my liking, yet when he does call they both run to the phone excited and it makes me upset because of my frail male ego, how can he still receive that response when I’m here on the daily making the necessary sacrifices is what I think to myself, but after much deliverance I’ve realized that there is a void there I could never fill, and I’ve come to terms with that, God has brought me a long way in that regard, I remain being the man they can look up to and admire while trying to develop a foundation with their father, he’s never wanted to meet me and still haven’t met him to this day, but those are my kids, we don’t use the step term unless when being technical
