I don’t ever write comments but long time listener. Really loved the convo on Deion. Both sides were right…. The one issue I had was with Joe not seeing how the kids would be effected. A lot of athletes who get recruited to play at the college level only have one way out. Therefore, they attach there hopes and dreams to a coach and an organization. When your coach leaves it lives you in limbo. I know this from personal experience. Luckily, I was able to navigate as I had a few more resources than some of my teammates. I didn’t quite understand how Joe couldn’t correlate this to music execs over promising to you and taking advantage of young black musical talent. College athletics is a business much like music is a business at the highest levels. The only difference is the 40 year old men get to play the game with more knowledge, money, and power than the individuals they are influencing. If the kids at Jackson state work hard and grind they will be ok. However, for some it will leave them in a weird spot… depending on their resources and knowledge will depend on where they go from here. Kinda like a young artist who gets mishandled or taken advantage of early in there career. It doesn’t mean you won’t make it but damn it’s a new hurdle you didn’t expect. Love the pod! Keep killin it!

They THINK they have one way out. You can always hit the books and get a degree or cert. Saying they only have one way out is borderline offensive because you're implying they're not capable of doing anything else
@christophergaston1846
@christophergaston1846 Жыл бұрын
@@dkmrap1 so that would be true but what most don’t know is those scholarships are not for 4 years… you can lose your scholarship at the end of each year. I attended an hbcu and saw a senior get sent home after hurting his leg on the field. He had one semester left…. So sometimes your opportunity is only tied to what you can do for the university.

@@christophergaston1846 a college is a daily networking conference. No matter how long you're there it can change your life. I know ppl that have made life changing connections in the 1st semester and they didn't even play sports
@christophergaston1846
@christophergaston1846 Жыл бұрын
@@P0k3D0nd3M4cG it’s not offensive and it’s not meant to be at all. Read my response above… scholarships are not guaranteed in the way that most think they are. Trust me a new coach is going to come in and some of those players scholarships will go to players that coach is brining in just like Deions son and other players will take scholarships from players at Colorado. No scholarship…. No money… then you go back home…. Seen it…. Of course you always have an option in life but a lot of kids who come from not so great parts of town also went to a school that wasn’t the best educationally as well thus making that athletic opportunity very important.

Ish has a valid point. However as someone that attended a HBCU I must say that they don't do right by their own in a lot of cases. Can't hold Deion to a high ass standard when most of these schools purposefully mismanage funds and don't do everything they can to accommodate the student bodies. I hoped that Deion would stick around, get Jackson State to a bigger conference, and make getting sought after recruits a regular thing for HBCU athletic programs but most people don't know the environment that most HBCUs are outside of the campus. I would be worried to have my kids (In Deion's case his kids are known and wealthy) running around Jackson Mississippi. He made a good move for himself and his career but I hope another legendary athlete takes his role at another HBCU in the near future.

I'm on the fence about dieon. On one side he told them he would consider a power 5 if it the opportunity presented itself and he derserve to keep climbing in his life and career. On the other hand him staying at JSU long term to me would have been better for black colleges and overtime gained enough exposure for them to start gaining the momentum, fundings and recruits to start really competing with those power fives. Him leaving takes away that momentum cause people have short term memory nowadays. They gonna forget what he did for JSU after a while as if JSU is just a high school

Facts. You can’t come to the Bible Belt preaching all that God stuff, just to flip the script for some more money. I literally thought he planned on changing the entire landscape of the HBCU’s not put a spotlight on one school for a few years then leave. I’m from Jackson so I know the real.

But didn’t he do his job and more? And these reports on how the school handled the money is nasty 😒 Deion coach prime did his job and more should he stayed another year maybe but the bigger picture is what he has done and you can’t question that

I know it's just for content but that first segment shows joe was a bad dad to his son.. once he said "I'm out duke" he really feels that way

Toss you to the side to chase that dollar and tell himself “it happens everyday”. I had to skip past the segment when Joe start talking reckless. It’s funny cuz he’ll be sure to tell us how the music industry screwed him over but right now, it’s “fuck them players”.

Ish is 100% on the Deion situation. Most definitely looking at him with the squinty eyes and the whole son being the QB is OD nepotism. Can you imagine if Nick Saban son was the QB of Alabama.

Yup, ppl are hesitating to say it bluntly but Sanders is showing a lack of integrity. A poor trait for a man, even worse for a coach n ppl in a power position

Deion was there 3 years, not 2... Ish must not know that every 4-5 star player that came to Jackson is going to Colorado.. Even the players thats staying at Jackson, Deion got them a lot of NIL money, as a proud person from Mississippi Its not a lot of Money here & Deion got them all paid. Imagine giving half your salary back to the school to help improve the weight room, the practice field & new grass in the stadium.. Deion left the Blueprint for the next coach... & Boosie haven't spoken on DWade son in the last 8-9 months, the man dropped it & left it alone. Why is she calling it out now when he's not speaking on wade or his family... I hate when y'all don't add context to what y'all speak on...Gabby didn't have to speak on this cause Boosie wasn't speaking on him

@@DadBot-_- The kids will never get to the NFL playing at Jackson, cause the NFL was never going to come watch them play....Did you miss the fact that he got kids NIL money that would've never gotten NIL money.. ...& FYI There's big name coaches currently at HCBU's, Eddie George at TSU, Hue Jackson is at Grambling, Mo Williams is coaching the Jackson St Basketball team. The Things Deion did for Jackson St, no other coach would've been willing to do those things...Jackson is going to be ok.... it's weird seeing people from outside of Mississippi cry over this

I love this Deion Sanders convo and wanted to weigh in. Yes, I agree that he said that he was going to change the landscape of how HBCU football was looked at. In 2 years, he did that. When I find myself looking through college football games I def started looking for HBCU highlights. He called out NFL teams that didn't show up to pro days for his kids. BTW, JSUs pro day was open to all HBCU athletes. He donated his salary at JSU for better amenities. As a result of the light he shined, you see prominent coaches/athletes like Hugh Jackson and Eddie George entering the coaching ranks. Oh and BTW, life is about networking. You think the relationships that were established are just going to dissipate? No, I think he will still have a presence on that scene in the background. That man helped change a lot of lives at JSU and I applaud him for it. Just fyi, not arguing anyones points, just stating my perspective. Enjoy yalls day.
