Have these uncomfortable conversations with those around you. Super happy you guys covered some tough talking points. I’m a 26 year old dad from Atlanta that has custody of my 5 year old son. I pulled him out of a very bad situation. He was left in cars. Transported without a car seat multiple times. Guns drawn in his vicinity. One instance when a gun was discharged in his direction in a car because of his mothers negligence. A father being awarded custody in the south is like winning the lottery. It’s extremely rare. Me and my sons mom are okay now. She sees him once or twice a month and pays child support. She’s flaked a few times. But she’s there. Growth is in those who seek it. Avid listener since the early SoundCloud Pete and Marisa days. First comment ever. Love.

I was glad when my parents divorced but felt devastated when my Dad got remarried. My mother didn't allow us to go to the wedding. When I saw him the next week I cried and asked him if he was still our Dad. He responded that if he thought it would upset me he would have never remarried. He said it seemed like no one cared that he was no longer with us. His words were comforting and he's been extra present to this day.

If you're a father and you disown your child because of the mother that is INSANE. We've gotten so desensitized to this and now we think it's normal. It's not. Heal yourself and connect with your child. Our community is so lost smh

Respectfully, u must be a woman. I wanna start by saying it’s NEVER ok to disown your child, ever. But as a father myself, i totally get why SOME men have strained relationships with their kids bc the women can be bitter & spiteful, especially if you’re not together anymore, the child can grow to be pro mom based on her filling the kid head with negative thoughts of u, further straining the relationship, luckily i don’t have that in my situation, but i know plenty of GOOD men who do.

That father convo was some real spit. I'm 36 and found out 3 years ago that I had living granddad in New Jersey. My dad never spoke about him so I assumed he was dead. Him & my father didn't have the best relationship and it made me understand why my dad was an inconsistent parent in my younger years.

I’m with Ish and Parks. If I raise a child for 10+ years, have a strong bond to this child, etc, there’s no way I’m letting him/her go without a fight. You can’t just come in after the years of work I’ve put in and just be like “well that’s my blood, so I’m taking them”. Now if you want to be involved in their life, and integrate yourself and your family, that’s fine. However, completely taking what is now emotionally and financially my child, yeahhh you’re not doing that. Joe and Ice sound selfish fr because they’re basically saying uprooting the kid completely is more important than making sure they have a stable life.

As a child who was abandoned, I agree wholeheartedly with Ish. My parents dropped me with my grandmother when they couldn’t care for me and then my mother uprooted me after I began to settle into a loving environment. At 15 I was removed from her care and I learned to only survive and not live. I often wonder what my life would have been if she would have left me in a loving environment instead of trying to save her own rep just to come get me.

VERY few physicians make $120k per year and those that do probably live in Bumfuck West Virginia and are only a year out of their residency. The vast majority make over $200k. With that said, 50 Cent is a multimillionaire. $6700 is literally change to him. He probably spends more on bottle service per month. I pay over $1000 a month child support for one child on a salary of $150k per year. 50 Cent pays roughly 6 times what I pay in child support meanwhile he earns several magnitudes more than I do. Child support IS a two-way street involving both parents, but its more nuanced than that. You have to factor in who is the primary parent, the quality of life afforded to the child, and how much money the primary parent makes (or doesn't make) relative to the secondary parent. Based on the general ratios and calculations most states use as guidelines, I would think 50 Cent should be paying anywhere from $10k-$15k. But this kid is also 25 years old, so I'm curious how (or if) he is still receiving said support. Joe caping for rapper-dead-beat-dads is not surprising given that he himself has been a dead beat, and is currently the quintessential every other weekend dad who swears he is father of the year for doing the bare minimum. Joe and his mental gymnastics are funny. Either you are there for your kid(s) and they feel that, or you're not and they don't. Either way, it falls on the PARENT in question.
@mickey10jb80
@mickey10jb80 Жыл бұрын
It's crazy how nobody brought that point up. How 6700 is low in comparison to the millions 50 makes. He sees his dad living this crazy lifestyle meanwhile he's nowhere near that. Possibly enough just to pay the bills if he lives in certain areas. Now I can see if in addition, 50 did more for him. Bought clothes and things like that.

This is one of the greatest pods I have watched, period. I can relate to ISH even though I am younger (27 years old)...for the longest time, my dad wasn't present in my life although he literally lived about an hour from my mother's house. Growing up, I would only see him when I was ill as he was the guy with the medical aid - I would see him once or twice a year. I grew up with a lot of resentment towards him as I saw from the five of my siblings, I was the "castaway" and it didn't help that I had my mother in my ear expressing how much of a "dog" he was...turning point was when I had to attend child support court proceedings as I was coming of age and that's where I found out he was actually sending money to my mother that I wasn't aware of and this led me to question what other positive things that were hidden from me to make him out as a bad guy. I reached out since that day and we've been good ever since...and oh, he is a cop too😂😂

Going off my real life experiences when it comes to child care. Me and my mom lived with my uncle and auntie for a few years until my mom passed when I was 8. When I was 17, my uncle told me that when I was around 13 my biological father showed up and my uncle told him don't come to my door no more. My biological did reach out to me at around 20 years old but we never hit it off and to this day I'm 33 and still don't know him. Yeah I got kids now and kinda wish they had a papa outside of my uncle who passed a few years back.. But I'm glad my uncle stood up for me and treated me like his son. His words "I'm proud of you" still brings me encouragement and motivation to this day. Right now I have 3 kids and my lady has 4 and they dad sees them about twice a month maybe. We've been together for years and if she were to pass I would hate if this dude tried to get in the mix. It would hurt the bone I have with the kids and more importantly it was put a strain on the bond that my kids and her kids have with each other. Nigga you been gone.. Stay gone. With my own kids.. My daughter's mom has a bf. She don't call him dad but if my daughter's mom passed and this nigga wanted to play ultra da with my daughter.. Then he can continue the relationship in hell with my ex cause he ghost

Three babies under the weather over here.... this is just what I needed to end a long day. You guys look so cozy- makes me miss home. I miss the crispy fall air. Enjoy! I know someone since they were a baby. I'd been telling the mother to tell the child they were adopted since they were 3. I said to just say it plain. "You came out of a different belly, but you're my baby." She said 10. 10 came and went. Literally, the worst case scenario happened... someone else told (just being mean after ear-hustling a grown folks' conversation). Everyone was caught off guard, and by this time, they were already going through their "terrible teen" phase. Oh boy! Things hit the fan after that, and they said they felt like their life was one big lie that everyone was in on. It was horrible. Little kids are pliable. They go with what they know because that's all they know. Finding a gentle way to say 'he is a piece of his mom she left for him to love, and not being his bio-father doesn't mean he can't be his dad' would be a kind start. You don't want a custody issue either. I'd assume there was a reason she didn't tell him herself so personally, I'd hope she had a will, and granted guardianship to her husband. If not, get custody officially first and foremost, wait to tell the bio-dad until the child is ready to find him, and connect. There are too many unknowns to take chances. That was a doozy... great pod, gentlemen! Thank you!🤗

Catching up on pods cos I've really missed a few (I know I'm hella behind) but this one is such a good discussion - especially around the topic of 50 cent & his son. I love that Ish was able to be vulnerable and share his own personal experience in growing up & the outlook that some men have/ go through. These are the types of important convos that open up the floor for communication among many & you gotta salute the JBP for it 👏🏾👏🏾❤️

Best Podcast. The new setup & seating arrangement is much better; having Joe sit to the side and having Ish in the middle, works perfectly. Joe can see & respond to his co-hosts comments/reactions. And shoutout to Parks, making his debut lol.

Great pod. Touched on a lot. Got me thinking abt making the right choices. Is it more important to be in a fulfilling rationship tht makes you happy or sacrifice your happiness for the sake of being a present father in an unfulfilled relationship with her mother...

you don't have to be with your child's mom for you to be a present father. However, you and his mom should foster a great relationship (friendship) for the sake of your child
@mahoganysweets67

I don't think people should just stay because they have the child but I do think they should put a lot more thought into staying or leaving if they have a child! Once you have a child, that child should be put first and sacrifices have to be made! Consider if the relationship can be healed and fixed, is the problem something that can be worked out. Do you live the person? Do they love you? Are you being selfish? Are you being superficial? Do the pros out weigh the cons? Are you communicating your grievances? Have you given them the opportunity to correct the issues? Is this a cause and effect issue with you being the source of it? For example you are doing/did something or not doing something that is the reason why they are doing something that you have an issue with? And so on. You owe it to your child, yourself and that woman to attempt to work things out! And to have the hard conversations about the relationship! Communicate and be honest with yourself first and with this woman! If you decide to leave, stay involved in your child life consistently! Do your best to remain mature, understanding, patient, to communicate as a team in raising the child and supporting the mother emotionally and mentally! The mother will be hurt if she still wanted/wants to be in a relationship with you so she may act out Brevard of the heartbreak so that's why I say be patient, understanding and supportive of her ass y'all create a new normal and non romantic relationship!
@mahoganysweets67
@mahoganysweets67 Жыл бұрын
I know that's a lot to read but I hope you do since y'all lives are involved and a precious child so this is extremely serious! Also alot of men selfishly decide to blindside their woman with a break up and never communicate that they had a serious issue with her and the relationship till they are already fed up, done and walking out the door without ever giving her the chance to fix things! And already have moved on and been seeing someone else they are now in love with when it possibly could have not gotten to that point if he communicated the problems earlier on and then at confused about why she is depressed, bitter, angry, heartbroken, betrayed, emotional and trying to hurt him back and being super toxic! He himself was toxic by how he handled it!

If you truly never loved her and didn't plan on marrying her and having children from jump, never later begin to want that or feel in love afterwards then it's best to just end things because you're robbing her and yourself of ever having true love and happiness! You will build a resentment and so will she that will be felt and show up in the family dynamics no matter how hard you try to hide it and will make things worse for all of you! Just go about the exit in the right way and be considerate, respectful of her fragile state in how you move on especially when it comes to being with other women! Read gof listen to guide books, parenting books, co parenting books, the do's and don't with all of this, pods and articles about the mistakes others made and what they learned, the child's perspective etc so you know best way to understand what the child feels about it and can best handle her as she goes through her life changing and what that looks like! Reassure her you ain't leaving her!
