Deep in the taiga, where humans are a rare sight, lies the beginning of Siberia’s giant river, the Lena. The taiga surrounding the Lena’s source is like an ocean - endless, immeasurable and dangerous. But it is habitat to many forest dwellers, who go about their lives and call it home. The taiga also opens itself up to people who know and respect the laws of the forest. Our film is about the mysterious beginning of the Lena River, its rapids and dark, ancient woods.

Beautiful places. And everything so full of living spirit. Thank you. This makes me appreciate both sides of the camera forwithout this invention I wouldn't ever see this place. I grew up high in the Andes mountains and I'm eternally grateful to have explored every inch of every road around there. "Road" being a loose term for nearly impassable tracks and river crossings that remind us we are fragile. And to breathe is precious.

Thank you for such a wonderful video on nature and it shows how tough it would have been for you to reach , spend your time in the wild as well making such a wonderful video. The sad part is by neglecting planet earth where for our short stay can be made so joyful, but by destroying our lovely nature and we plan to explore Mars, moon , space and universe instead of enjoying our stay on our beautiful planet called earth. I am sure mankind will wake up early to save our planet for future generations also to explore and enjoy our beloved EARTH. Thank you.

These Russians are really brave. This isn't Survivor Island....oh, no, this is SIBERIA, the Amazon of the North. These guys are the toughest that exist, without a doubt. No special gear, no roads....just a rifle, horses, and whatever the hell they can find along the way. Lewis and Clark has nothing on Gennady. This is the Klondike of the 1880s....but 138 times bigger, emptier and with more and slightly bigger and hungry Wolves and BEARS. Nope, I wouldn't do it, but LOVE the video of real people doing real things. Perhaps only in Russia.....

Your films are like treasures from times gone by. Great family viewing both poetic and educational. In contrast to most modern nature documentaries that are fast paced, garish, and contrived. One small error in the title, the predominant conifers in the forests are pine, larch, fir, and spruce. I could be wrong but I didn't see any cedars.

@@wildlife-siberia-ukraine38 Thanks for your reply! We love cedars and have planted some Himalayan cedars (Cedrus deodara). What a great documentary out in the forest. So glad there was no hunting of animals in it...I switch off if there is. It didn’t disappoint...just a lovely trip out in the wilderness..close up of the wild life and no shooting of guns...perfect.

I visited Siberia/Irkustr in 1990. Really pristine and unspoilt environment. Very welcoming and hospitable people. Tons of love from Mauritius.
