Welcome to our brand new monthly Boxing series: Outside the Ropes.
Hosted by Dom McGuinness, we go behind the scenes to meet the people behind the sport of Boxing to learn just what it takes to participate in the sweet science. Whether it be as a promoter, fighter, cornerman, referee, sparring partner, or anything in between, we've got it covered. Subscribe and turn on notifications to keep up to date with The Sportsman: Outside the Ropes.
In this episode, we look at Jamie Quinn, the boxer paid to lose, but who is winning at life.
"A load of these fans that criticise journeymen, coming to watch the prospects, they don’t realise that their money’s going in my pocket! That’s why I’d rather be on the road than selling tickets. I don’t want to be paying no-one else’s wages. I want them paying my wages!
“After a fight I’d get an envelope - recently it’s being going into the bank - but I used to get an envelope full of cash with a wage slip in it. Cash and dash we used to call it.”

I have been trying to understand the Journeyman mentality in the sport as I cover boxing---watching you in this video you are extremely talented, it makes me a little sad you didn't just go with your talent, because watching your skills I sincerely believe you could have ended up being a champion with a great record.

There's a fight of his against Nick Ball who I think will be a future world Champion and while Ball clearly won, he holds his own. He looks more than competent with good technique and a nice jab with clean straight punches . He has good movement and can stay out of trouble. I just can't understand how he has such a poor record. He actually looks good. It's baffling to me.
