The Judges House review is the last of the Bram Stoker stories for this November read-along. I really liked this story, especially the setting. Let me know what you thought.

Again, Great review, Alex! I saw your interview with Dane yesterday while cooking dinner and didn’t get a chance to comment there. But I did want to say great job!

Probably the greatest ghost story ever written, to be honest.

This story sounds very interesting. I’ll try to find it online to read it. Also double Malcom 😂 his parents weren’t very creative.

I read the story as an elementary school student, in an anthology entitled "Tales To Tremble By." Stoker's story was the last in the collection, and sometimes, on weekends, I would read through the entire collection, always keeping "The Judge's House" for last. To me, it is far more horrifying than Dracula, more tightly written and not diffused over a set of documents, like the novel is. However, one thing I never figured out---and perhaps Stoker wanted to withhold it---is the motive for the Judge's execution of the student. Had the judge, perhaps, struggled with calculus during his undergrad days before law school? Stoker mentioned that the judge had been well known for his hostility toward prisoners; and does this mean any prisoner, even those ultimately proven innocent, or those who have been duly proven guilty and convicted? If the latter, what does the Judge, as a specter, no of Malcomson's life, or what in Malcomson's behavior or demeanor called for the Judge's wrath?

That is a very considered comment. I remember when I read it I really enjoyed it and have been planning to reread it for a while. I will have to reread it soon and keep your questions in mind 👍😁
