CLIP DESCRIPTION:
After Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) tells Dre (Jaden Smith) about his family's car accident, Dre tries to help through training.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
When a 12-year-old from Detroit moves to China with his mother and incurs the wrath of the class bully at his new school, he makes an unlikely ally in the form of his aging maintenance man, a kung fu master who teaches him the secrets to self-defense. Upon arriving at his new school, Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) develops a powerful crush on pretty classmate Mei Ying. The feeling is mutual, although the cultural divide between Dre and Mei Ying makes a friendship unlikely, and romance impossible. When cruel classmate and kung fu prodigy Cheng learns of Dre's feelings for Mei Ying, he harasses and humiliates the young outsider in front of the entire school. With no one to turn to for help, Dre confides his fears in kindly maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), a kung fu master who knows that serenity and maturity -- not punches and power -- are the true keys to mastering the martial arts. As Dre prepares to face down his intimidating tormentor, he begins to realize that the real fight is just beginning.

My take is he may have lost his place as a father and a husband, but Dre reminds him he's still a teacher. The Chinese regard teachers/masters like fathers. He still has a student/son to nurture, his newfound purpose in life.

The two balanced each other out nicely. Dre was in need of a father figure that could help him through his troubles, and Mr. Han saw his own son in Dre which is probably the main reason that he went about helping him.

For all those people who say Dre didn't care or rather wanted to training, that's so wrong. He wanted to be one with Mr.Hahn, so his che opens up and he can calm down. So he can feel relieved and peace in his soul/heart. They never did this before and they connected by doing this. This is so emotional.

This movie does a better job of showing how interdependent the student and teacher are. Dre lifts Mr. Han by exposing vulnerability. It's a simple truth that we ascend to greater heights by lifting others up. Dre learned this and demonstrated this. He lets Mr. Han put his self defeating emotions aside to focus on a greater goal. Dre needed his help. Mr. Han responded and was able to forget about his pain for a greater purpose. The tragedy exists because Mr. Han has no heir. He has no future. He has no one to follow him. In Dre, he has what is missing. The scene is beautiful and with so few spoken words, it brings me to tears every time.

This scene just shows what generational/ancestral trauma is and how devastating it is. Every year Han breaks the car the same way the car crashed, constantly reliving that scenario with an illusory hope that it will pan out differently. Until we can accept our circumstances, and know that scars are never meant to fully heal. They will always be there, but without acceptance there is no salvation. Often times the universe tests us quite literally, other times the universe tests us in ways where we can only see within.

This movie should have aptly been called “The Kung Fu Kid”, as there is no karate demonstrated in the film. With that said, it’s a good film otherwise and this music and the scene it was composed for is amazing. A grieving father is comforted silently by his pupil and helping him learn to not only live with his grief/loss of his family but that he can remember his family and at the same time, still also help others, including his pupil and in turn, Dre becomes a bit wiser.

Bruh, Karate Kid (2010) is probably one of the best ‘reboots’ ever imo. Changes just enough to fit a new setting/location with original characters and uses a similar formula to maintain the heart/theme of the original. The only crux with it is calling it KARATE kid when the core of the reboot & its originality is its about KUNGFU.

jennovy Fuentes-first off the comment is made 9 months ago, second he was talking about Dre’s mom,not the one died in the crash and if you watched this scene and the movie again, you should know the story pretty well,I haven’t watched it in years and still know main parts of the story.

What an unexpectedly powerful and emotional scene. A lot of people don't give enough credit to this movie cause they think it's just another tired remake, when in reality it's actually a very solid film in its own right.
