12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's (Taraji P. Henson) latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying - and the feeling is mutual - but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

@@Tiayyy people who can't accept that stories can be retold over and over with new names, places, situations. Its nothing more than The Hero's Journey archetype which has been told uncountable times through history, but people are just mad that it wasn't exactly what they remembered.

I really love the idea of Mr. Han's dad brought him there and told him it's "magic king fu water" Yes, most things in life come from hard work and perseverance, but it doesn't hurt to have a little confidence. Mr. Han remembered the trip for the rest of his life, and even if he doesn't believe the myth anymore he (and now dre) still remember what it was like to walk all the way and earn the drink from the dragon well.

@@WilliamWizer Kung Fu is more popularly known as some kind of fighting style, but its original definition is suppose to be an umbrella term referring to the "excellence of self" and "the perfecting of any study or skill and the hard work it takes to get there". That's why "everything is Kung Fu" cause it's not just philosophical, it's literally what it means.

yes. but they should be carring a couple buckets full of water while walking. you drop the water, you go back, fill the buckets, and try again. repeat until you succeed. good for balance. good for strength. good for endurance. good for discipline. good for mind.
