I think the Kardashians just ultimately created their own hell. After practically manufacturing the idea of a perfect body, they themselves now can't escape the monster they've created. It's just really sad.

True, some could see it as sad. However they have the opportunity to rewire the way people perceive them! They could start an entire social media campaign swearing off edited and photoshopped pictures. They have the power to change it! That definitely makes it less sad.

I would argue that while the Kardashian-Jenners have definitely been a huge part in fostering this environment where you have to look a certain way, and you have to be "perfect" constantly, they are far from the people who created it. I remember being a kid in the early 2000s and the TV was full of reality shows where people were shamed for the way they looked for entertainment -- whether it was for not dressing fashionably enough OR the way you ate, this culture of making us hate our bodies and the "need" for constant editing has been brewing since forever. Photos have ALWAYS been edited, even in the days when they were made using wet plates. It is really sad though, cause I genuinely think they have a very warped understanding of what they look like -- and who wouldn't in their shoes? I'm not a fan of them, but like James said, they're in a position where they're insulted whether they edit their images or whether they don't. I also don't think they could start a campaign reversing this phenomenon and it would actually work -- many celebrities have tried it, but it's now so enmeshed with the way we share and look at images, and it is indeed larger than just the Kardashians.

If I understood correctly, this was the 2nd time Foreo has apologized to James for this issue. Is it possible thay they are just "messing up" on purpose so that they can "own up" and make themselves "the company that knows how to admit their mistakes and apologize" so that people will think more highly of them? Not that they can't make the same mistake twice, but brand marketing can get real creative these days so I never know whom to trust 😅

I have deeply conflicting feelings about the Kardashians complaining when unedited photos show up. I don't in any way condone hate comments, but these are women who have benefitted massively by selling and be associated with an absolutely unattainable body standard, they created it, they are happy to profit in terms of both celebrity status and money from it, but they likewise want to complain about being held to it. If Khloe or any of her sisters have an issue with constantly being compared to an unrealistic standard that they created, I don't see why they don't begin dismantling it by being honest about the fact that they photoshop (they still reguarly claim they don't), and begin posting photos without the editing. I just struggle a little bit to have sympathy for them creating a standard that all women are now held to, but also expecting a lot of sympathy when cracks show in the facade.

There's a difference between being held to and being taunted or mocked. Something important to realise is how many people have a body like Kourtneys unedited body and how they might feel reading that. We mock them when they look real (Khloe pre surgery) to the point they get surgery then mock them for using surgery or editing. Half the time the editing is in the contract and not done by them.

@@missbeaussie most of their editing is in their personal social media accounts. I think the main problem is that they started editing their pictures from day 1 creating these fake versions of themselves and then when unedited ones come out where they look completely different it’s shocking. No one should call people ugly, fat, comment on someone’s nose…etc… but at the same time when you post 100 pictures edited to look one way and then 1 shows the real deal people unfortunately are going to say something. If they just started posting all regular pictures then people wouldn’t care when an unedited one pops up.

It's so good that James is speaking about the negative effects of diet supplements. Those slimmer teas work as a laxative. The thing with laxatives is that they work on the large intestine but calories have already been consumed in the small intestine. So really they just dehydrate you and give you diarrhoea. This is how my dietician explained it to me after I was abusing laxatives during years of suffering from an eating disorder. We need more awareness on this.
@KittyCat260
@KittyCat260 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Aside from the teas and supplements, too many people (mostly women) have started abusing over the counter laxatives because a lack of awareness of how weight loss actually works - as you said, those calories are already absorbed and overuse of laxatives can actually seriously damage the digestive system over time.

Some laxatives can have the effect of hastening digestion, so they can help you lose (or keep off) lbs. People wouldn't use them, if they didn't work at all. That's the problem; they CAN help, in the short term. But they cause more problems than they solve, unfortunately.

The teas, however, mostly just lose water weight, by not allowing your body to absorb extra water before the waste exits your body. So, yeah, diarrhea. No real effect, whatsoever. Besides maybe dehydration. Not good.

I think with the Boohoo thing, it could be the time they put photos on their site of a model UNEDITED (it seems unedited). Then people were debating if said model should be considered plus size as people think she's average sized. That might be the situation you were thinking of. I couldn't find anything on Google about them making the models larger. Maybe I just didn't look deep enough. EDIT: The Kourtney unedited picture getting hate baffles me. Those same people sit in her comments "stop photoshopping", "you'd be prettier unedited" etc. But then once theres unedited photos where she looks AMAZING, she gets body shamed. I deleted Snapchat to get rid of the temptation and I now only use filters that are color/light effects, nothing that actually changes the structure of my face. I just thought of that when that last tiktoker mentioned the pressure for celebrities to be edited and her point about them feeling bad looking in the mirror. Personally, I think the worst part about ready-set face filters on apps like snapchat is the beauty standards they push in regards of the ‘perfect’ sizes for eyes, lips, nose and chin in the ideal face. And I’ll be honest, nothing hits my confidence harder than having played around with filters for a while and then removing them. I do use them sometimes, but I tell myself that the only person I’m fooling is myself lol

I think it’s more of a societal issue that needs changing. This incessant focus on superficiality and the worshipping of idols in general. Look at Korea, their cosmetic surgery industry is of the charts where a large percentage of the population have had some form of work done by the time they’re adults. It’s also the place where the idol industry is massive, artists are enslaved and become objectified to the point of violence. It’s no wonder that the mental health issues are ski high and suicide rates escalate. Each year multiple victims of cyber bullying and other such pressures cause beautiful young folks at the height of their lives decide to end everything. They need to stop branding human beings and marketing them as commodities. Stop manipulating people’s ideas of so called perfection. When will the over commercialism stop? It’s gotten to the point where we’ve even learned how to accept it in every part of lives. From advertisements with false claims and hidden manipulation of propaganda. What’s real and what’s false? Who bloody knows anymore? Can we stop trying to divide everybody ffs?

@@gpgp1841 I was a model through the 2000s and 2010s and that was definitely a thing then. Fat suits, butt padding, fake tiddie inserts or just plain photoshopping bigger in post production. We want plus sized models but don't generally tolerate actual realities of that, like belly folds while standing, more dramatic/noticeable cellulite, thick necks, undefined chins, fat buckling around joints like elbows and knees, much fuller faces, limb extremities being puffy/discolored, etc. We basically want thin women with enormous assets and thin waists. When genuine, plus sized women are portrayed (and not surgically altered to fit the norm listed above, or photoshopped as though they were) they get ruthlessly attacked. They get insulted, death threats, and even the pro-fat, plus sized advocates overlook them in lieu of the surgeried, edited types that get reposted endlessly in spite of not being natural or realistic for even them. It's difficult, because real women aren't perfect but media doesn't allow that for women's images.

I hardly buy something recommended by someone on yt but after Tatis' review from the Foreo Luna 3, I decided to give it a try. That brush has been a blessing to my skin, it works great on me. My skin looked brighter since the second day of use, even my husband noticed and complemented me on my brighter skin. There is definitely a time and place for editing photos, but as long as they are done well and not overly altering appearances where advertisments are concerned. Filters and editing when showing results should not allowed but sadly when there is bad editing or fliter glitching that will get more traction from a wider audience than real results. It is something that people should be aware of that practically 99% of advertised media has been edited in some form. To all the people showing themselves unedited and true on social media, you are starting the change that has been a long time coming. It may not seem like much but it gives us 'everyday' people that little bit of confidence that we are actually beautiful.
