Great bike. I recently bought a 2000 ZX-9R with 32k. Outstanding rider position and balance. Good, even throttle response and very forgiving with minor pilot errors. And the carbureted growl above 10k RPM is divine. Cool looking bike as well with a genuine old-school vibe....

one thing he touched on was the riding position. the competition, and even more so more modern contenders, are designed around 5'3" jockeys. this generation of kawasaki was much better for those of us 5'10" and over.

Bloody heightists,lol,i'm 5'4 and it cost's more money to lower them,recently spent 400 sovs to lower me ZX-10R,but hey i ain't complaining,i have a constant grin,who wouldn't,these things are shit bat crazy,bikes are a mobile FUN FAIR!!

I had one of these E models from 2001 to 2009. I rode a few other superbikes in that time but couldn't part with the 9R. The size is good for the road and cruising. It can drop from one side to the other as fast as you can muscle it. The torque is nice but the traditional kawasaki howl at high revs keeps you wanting to go for it. Very stable, reasonably comfy, easy to manage, practical, great wind protection....there is nothing this bike does badly.

@@jesserodriguez1126 tuned 7r can put 150 bhp rear wheel in race trim dont know about zx9 but i think the chassis is very similar so it will handle really well

I've got a 2004 zx9rf2p! It's my 3rd zx9r and I absolutely love it! Low tech but bullet proof and lots of fun. Silver black and orange decels.

Fond memories - going down M5 open motorway at the absolute limit of this bikes speed! Rock solid, even hitting cats eyes at upwards of 150.

have that identical bike except I have +4in swingarm, -1 tooth front sprocket, lowered a couple inches, and stage 3 carbs and supporting mods. shes a beast

I've had 50 bikes over my riding period. I've just swapped my Aprilia mille 03 for one of these 03 versions. 15k for £3000. There's a little vibration but it so much more comfortable. seat to pegs is trail bike like and there's no stretch to the bars. it's very upright. The engine is more than enough for me these days, I'm 52 with a disc problem. I'd like to keep the mille but it's done 30k now and will be worth little. It's never let me down, except for a wheel bearing. The torque is better than the Kawasaki, but the Kawasaki is more forgiving. lighter clutch, less grabby engine below 40. Chalk and cheese bikes but now I'm older I don't need it.

Ive gotta compliment the review, fair and truthful. Ive only recently bought myself a 2000 zx9r, after a few years without a bike. Id also agree with the zx9 not being as raw edged as the r1 or gsxr, those bikes with the shorter swing arm and less weight are easier to throw around at a track and are probably a bit quicker (especially the gixxer) on the straights. The zx9 cant be counted out of a drag race though, and is superb to wheelie in the first four gears. Considering i paid about half of what the comparable gixxer and r1 are ( I paid $2500 Aus) i think they are really are hard to compete with for the price in the current market.

I have a 2005 Z1000 which has the ZX9R motor with a slightly bigger bore. People can say what they like about the power and these new 200 horsepower or even 150 horsepower bikes but it’s pushing 125 rear wheel horsepower and I’ve never wanted for more. I love the midrange torque and the roll on power is amazing. Even in top gear it will pick up 20-25 mph with a slight twist of the wrist. Best of all because they’ve been making it for so long there’s no problems to sort out like some bikes that change every 2-3 years

They were just over 400 lbs wet fuel oil and had 145 hp at crank and were just tick slower in top end and 1/4 mile good rider on one can beat new one if the new bike rider is not top notch. Looks great compared to the new ones and handles great and no ton of electronics to fry and they do and are expensive. Older ones can go 100k miles with basic maintenance. great bikes find a used one in good shape for 6 grand or less you have a great bike that is more than ever needed on street and track unless you are top 1% rider bike will be better than rider.

Bought My Pride & Joy in March 2000 & Still ride Her today. Been out tonight for a blast & still gives Me a BIG BUZZ like She did 21 years ago.Im 56 now & I can still give most other riders a run for there money LOL.. Best bike ever made in My Mind....She lives in the house :)

Love mine 173 I say 175 though. That is nearly 175 mph on the ballaugh straight.TT week 2017.Gotta love the iom Mental.

There was a false neutral in most of these 1999 to 2002 models. A shift kit takes care of it. A detent arm with spring

I bought on eof the first E1 fox-eye models and to this day maintain it was one of the best bikes I have owned. Available for silly money now (Jan 2021 as I type) so seriously thinking of revisiting those happy days....

The 02-03 F zx-9r are even better than the 00-01. I had both 00 and a 03.

@miroslav the 00-03 E and F models ZX-9R'S in my opinion are better than the cbr 900rr. I have ridden both brands and the Kawie is much better balanced, easier to ride, more comfortable, more powerful, and has better suspension than the 900rr. But that is MY personal opinion and I am no expert. I am an above average rider and have 20 years experience on street , dirt, and woods. But No track experience so take it for what its worth. I love Honda and Kawasaki and both produce excellent products but I guess it just comes down to your body build, type of rider, and personal preference as to which bike is better. If I had the choice I would own both, each model year in every color !

@miroslav the 900rr (919) the 929rr and 954rr are much better than the 900rr(919) I haven't ridden the 929 or 954rr so I can not comment about them. But I have heard from a lot of riders that the 929 is an awesome track bike and the 954 is just as good.

I just bought a 2001 zx-9r today in mint condition. Haven't gotten out to enjoy it yet since its been raining but I think I'm going to like it even better than my 750 gixxer I sold last fall.

sold mine regretting it ever since. I have a 2008 Aprilia rsv 1000r and I believe the zx9 is faster. definitely more reliable.

i had a falco good bike but for leg cramp and hatting larger bumps the bloody suspension was so hard ended up changing gear as it threw my foot up.zx9 is much better all rounder

One performance characteristic apparently missed by every review is the 2000 ZX-9R's California model cousin, the EVAP version. Another change made in 2000 vs. previous ZX9 models that was not mentioned here... Kawasaki added a removable rear subframe.

I loved the zx900s but the best 9 series in that era was the 954 cbr honda power and was light as the 600s of that day but way more power it was a wicked bike. but again the green zx900s were no slouch and loved the looks of that era, no sharp nose or edges smooth flowing lines.

I am thinking about looking at zx9r as my next bike but not sure if it's a big step from my rgv250. I fancy a tourer for them nice days out to Wales with out getting back ache. I am only 5ft 6inc so will this seize bike be to much for me?

Looks like we were in the same boat.. I'm just a little bit shorter than you. "5-4" and I went from a GS 500 to a zx9r and let me be the first to tell you it can be a bit intimidating. The smaller bikes are more forgiving. But this beast is not. If you want see of the same control as a smaller bike but major upgrade in power stick with a 600 gsxr. If you decide to get a zx9r take time to really learn your bike. Good luck bro

I used to be ashamed when Native English speakers correct me for unintentionally miss pronouncing words. But then I heard Kawazaki, Hondr,Pyoutin. Now I don't give a single fuck. Now I can speak English fluently but fault on purpose to annoy them.
