I learned this soooo many years ago. I wouldn't ordinarily sing a song about hunting and shooting at "merry little does," but I love this tune. Here's another version, by the Futureheads, a capella. Lovely. • The Futureheads: 'The ... . This black and white video is from a 1965 PBS/TV Series for children called "What's New." The host of the series was Al Binford. It was on KCET, shot at Brooklyn College and directed by Joan Shepard. The song is in the public domain.

Thank you! I wish this song was a little more PC for very young children. It's about a hunter trying to kill a doe, and I can't really sing it to 5 year olds. It's okay for older kids though. Thanks for watching. I have some CDs for children out at runalonghome.com. And ones for adults at Amazon and I-tunes under the name Tracy Newman and the Reinforcements - videos on KZfaq as well!

Thank you, Papermaker. I have them all. I don't know how to really get them to you. Maybe you know how? They are not all in good condition, that's they I've never posted all the songs. Any ideas?

No. Google Translate. I love the language, though. I have a song that I would like to translate into Portuguese, but just never did it. It's called "All the Days of My Life." (Não. Google Translate. Eu amo a linguagem, no entanto. Tenho uma música que gostaria de traduzir para o português, mas nunca fiz isso. Chama-se "Todos os dias da minha vida".) I'm not sure that is a very good translation. Google is not great. (Não tenho certeza se é uma tradução muito boa. O Google não é ótimo.)

I love watching the old videos and hearing you sing, Tracy. What was your life like back then? What was a typical day for you like back then? That was the year that I was born and I always have fantasies about going back in time to the time I was born and experiencing life and then as an adult. Were you working in that studio on March 22nd, 1965?

I don't remember what month we shot those shows, so I don't know if I was in the studio when you were born. I was in New York for about 2 1/2 years - the end of 1964 to the middle of 1966. I'm from LA so... I returned to LA. I was there specifically to play clubs in the Village and "become a star." I had plenty of solid opportunities, but didn't quite understand what I had to offer. When I look at these, it's pretty clear, but it wasn't back then. PBS probably wanted me to do more of these shows, but I didn't understand at that time how good these were and how they might help my "career." Frankly, my typical day was sleeping until noon, hanging around all afternoon and getting ready for a gig... I worked almost every night somewhere. The Bitter End, a nightclub called Tobo's, clubs in Queens, all over the place. I usually ended up after my shows at the original Improv at 44th and 9th. All the performers (not yet big stars) would go there after their nightly gigs and perform for free. The place was open almost all night; I would stay until about 4am watching everyone - performers like Rodney Dangerfield, Lily Tomlin, Richard Pryor, Robert Klein... the list goes on... I can't remember them all now. I was drawn to comics and my boyfriends were all very funny guys. I even dated Rodney, who was separated from his wife and a pretty serious alcoholic. It was not a particularly wholesome time, but it was dazzling. I performed too, and what I was doing at that time was a Beatles medley I had worked up. It was very well-received, as you can imagine. Really fun. I hope this helps you get a picture of me at that time. I was 22-24 and really enjoying myself.

@@tracynewman3256 you had an interesting life, thanks for sharing. I seriously wish I could go back in a time machine to then and have hung out with you and those people, that would have been fun. Maybe someday our paths will cross, who knows? If you perform in public in the next few years and keep posted about it maybe someday I'll be traveling by whatever state you happen to be in and see you then. If you weren't really all that wholesome you sure seemed like it in the video LOL. It almost seemed natural that you would do this with a live audience of kids somewhere at some point, did that ever happen?

@@tedmccarron No. I never did a recorded show with kids. I sing at schools now, though, and have some people talking to me about doing another PBS show here in LA. Something similar to what I did then, I guess. Or maybe something for younger kids. I have 3 CDs for young kids out right now... I probably told you about that: runalonghome.com. The songs are really fun and the TV show would focus on my own recordings, mostly. The idea is still kind of wishy-washy, so... it might never happen.
