I really appreciate your videos. I got an AAS in Network Admin and then was able to find an internship that lead to full-time work. I did help desk for a little over 2 years and then an opportunity for advancement opened up. I am now a windows admin but my supervisor told me he wants me to learn lots of the things that you talk about, and subsequently that I am interested in. So, with any luck, I'll be taking training that will provide the skills needed to eventually work my way into cloud.

Spot on GPS! I tend to call it layers. You have to understand and be able to stack and apply the layers to accomplish what is required. It is tempting to take shortcuts and skip some of the more important layers like networking or Linux, but this will make your life and your employer's life difficult. I have found that practice and more practice in your weak areas is the best approach. Again, specifically speaking for myself coming from a background of reading animal books from O'Reilly. You are correct on how now, the learning barrier is much lower due to having chatGPT/LLMs that are capable of describing any concept on demand.

The problem begins when the cloud engineers in your company prepared a template for deploying cloud apps and now you, a back-end dev, have to do devops involving Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, Ansible Tower, MQL, Jinja and a bunch of other tools. I enjoy knowing multiple technologies but this industry has forgotten that there is such a thing as specialization.

When you say cloud abstract and azure function is computing model with abstractions in it. Does the word abstraction means unique service?

It is not a discipline. No so-called “* engineers” will have the same duties in different organizations. If on goes around with the title “systems *” one should understand how any system works and integrates with any other system.
