Teacher, teacher: The club's name was The Bang Bang Club and it consisted of 4 members. Back to the story: I think Kevin did what he thought was the best thing to do at that particular point with the information he had. I did a crash course in First Responder and one thing the instructors kept hammering onto us was: If you dont have the right gear or material for a situation dont respond ii) Always asses a situation and if you realize offfering help puts you in harms way then stop immediately. I'd hate to be in Kevin's shoe because sincerely I dont know what I would have done. It also break my heart that he had to take his life: that pic triggered an avalanche of humanitarian response which I think was a positive thing. Did the baby die, for those who know?

If this story had been given without Kevin's history of standing for what's right regardless of the rules we would probably judge him different. I remember vaguely hearing a snippet of the vulture story and judging it as inhumane, but now I feel differently about it. Let's leave the judging to God because sometimes we don't know the whole story.

Tragically, Carter committed suicide three months after the photograph was published and only a week after being awarded the Pulitzer Prize. Carter’s death is speculated to have been a result of one of two things: either he could not handle the fame that was brought on by the photograph and the award, or he could not bear the guilt of not helping the child in the photograph. In a Time magazine article following Carter’s tragic suicide, the piece relayed the guilt that Carter felt and how “even some of Carter's friends wondered aloud why he had not helped the girl” (MacLeod, 1994). The guilt he had felt afterwards for not helping the little girl seemed to be too much for the man to handle.

I believe that was the last straw, the trauma had been building throughout his life eventually exploded after the picture.I wish he hadn't spoken publicly about the details of the photo...if truly he called the UN immediately and was told the situation was being taken care of,then he would have never faced the public wrath. On the other hand,we don't know if the UN acted in the urgency that was required or that he was actually afraid of whatever disease the girl might have been carrying...and the guilt was overwhelming.Sad,sad,sad...I wish mental health services were as available as they are now.Im sure he has PTSD as well from everything he saw and experienced since childhood.

Such a touching story Sometimes I watch news about some communities fighting, some hate speech from from our politicians and some citizens support such hate speech, and I am like, “these people do not know the value of the peace we enjoy in this country.” Refugee are just people who were living their normal lives in their country; teachers, bankers, healthcare practitioners, lawyers, engineers, business people, the jobless, etc., but something happened in their country and they could no longer live there. The fact that in most parts of this country, Nairobi for example, you can wake up, walk to the nearest bus stop, catch a bus to CBD, run your errands, and once done, catch another bus to your residence and find your house still intact, is a reason to thank God and do whatever it takes to keep that peace. I was moved by the criticism that eventually led to Kelvin committing suicide. And I can imagine in this generation with social media, such criticism can go even further. I think it is important to make an effort to understand the circumstances someone was in before judging them. In this spirit, Abel please tell the story of “The Lost Boys of Sudan.” It might not be such a headline hitter, but it is a touching story.

According to me, the mission, there was to take photos in order to attract aid but now you’ve got to one of the most precious photo according to your feelings at the same time. It is a life that you have to save, especially knowing that this is a toddler despite being under serious instruction not to touch or come to contact to the victims, now I think he could just sat down there and wait until the medics arrive before proceeding to the next destination. Better time wasted to save a life, than time saved to get content.

Abeli kuna part umesahau very important especially reason he committed sucide, is when one media house welcomed him for a show to explain the idea behind the art after he was awarded the prize and he Said how sad he noticed the vulture was waiting for the baby to die so it can eat. someone one call on live tv while he was being interviewed and Said I’ll quote “I see 2 vultures on the picture the bird 🦅 waiting to prey and you taking a picture to get you an award”That comment killed this guy. My take here he could have still thrown some food or water without touching that kid.the distance he was taking the picture from was enough to throw some leftover food to her.

And this other guy is out here screaming out loud that rules are meant to be broken, Just remember we’re all human beings and our first instincts we’ll always be to save ourselves first especially if it’s in a state of life and death situations.Bravo to the guy he did what took him there.
