My boyfriend who passed away a few weeks ago sang this song when we were at a bar doing karaoke one night. Since he sang it that night, I had been trying to figure out the name of it; I finally came across it tonight. The song has so much meaning to me. We were together for five years and were both young when he sung this song. Now I just watch the video of him in my phone when he sang this song that night at the bar, wishing he was still alive, wishing that we could go back in time to when we were young. R.I.P. Chris, I'll always love you.

@@codeman9145 -I'm turning 40 next month. It's funny how when we were young we see the world one way and what's important and what we take for granted. Then fast forward to half you life over and look back and see all the missed moments and things to be ashamed of. You start to try to give younger people advice so they don't go down that path but you know they won't listen. The best things in life are often overlooked and mistreated for garbage and stress we just don't need. It's all self inflicted. Sometimes you can correct for history by making things right but most of the time all you can do is look back and wish you were a better person to the people around you.

Lyrics: You sit there in your heartache Waiting on some beautiful boy to To save you from your old ways You play forgiveness Watch it now, here he comes He doesn't look a thing like Jesus But he talks like a gentlemen Like you imagined when you were young Can we climb this mountain? I don't know Higher now than ever before I know we can make it if we take it slow Let's take it easy Easy now, watch it go We're burning down the highway skyline On the back of a hurricane that started turning When you were young When you were young And sometimes you close your eyes And see the place where you used to live When you were young They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet You don't have to drink right now But you can dip your feet Every once in a little while You sit there in your heartache Waiting on some beautiful boy to To save you from your old ways You play forgiveness Watch it now, here he comes He doesn't look a thing like Jesus But he talks like a gentlemen Like you imagined when you were young (Talks like a gentlemen, like you imagined) When you were young I said he doesn't look a thing like Jesus He doesn't look a thing like Jesus But more than you'll ever know

This was the very first killers song I heard. I remember listening to this on repeat one summer when I was younger. Songs meanings change as you get older and change. This song used to remind me of two friends I met at a summer camp (one of them was named Sam like Sam’s town). It’s crazy how much has changed since then but this song can take me back to being a little kid at a summer camp in dead July heat. I can still feel the way I felt then despite being completely different.

Almost 30 years old and this song hits hard. Reminds me of all the good times I had growing up and all the people I went to school with and hung out with. I have no clue what most of them are up to these days. Fucking sad. We spent all them years growing up together and now we don’t even talk.

Picture the scene - it's 2007 you just finished school. - your walking home with your friends having a good laugh. - you get home and grab some snacks and a drink and run up stairs to your room. - you boot up your console of choice and pick up your guitar hero guitar. - you put in guitar hero 3 and select this bad ass track to play. Life is good.

It's because Brandon Flowers was a tormented Mormon at the time. The dude was practically on fire, he was so conflicted. Add that to the fact that the band only makes Springsteen synth anthems, and you got a recipe for emotional overload (never a bad thing with these types of songs).

the serenity of the part that says, "They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet. You don't have drink right now, but you can dip your feet, every once in the little while," in Guitar Hero was what drew me to this song. Now its nearly 8 years later and I haven't found anything as enchanting as that part. The Killers is one hell of a band.

I'm 26 now. I had heard of the killers song " are we human or are we dancer". Never heard this song until my break at work this afternoon. Caught myself laughing with joy over the memories in my teenage years from my first ever girlfriend to the times I'd be drinking in a field somewhere with my friends, while our parents believed we were having a sleepover. Such fond memories flashed through my head hearing this. I'm absolutely gobsmacked at how emotional it has made me. What a smashing song and what fantastic lyrics Brandon Flowers ♥️♥️♥️

Lyrics You sit there in your heartache Waiting on some beautiful boy to To save you from your old ways You play forgiveness Watch it now, here he comes He doesn't look a thing like Jesus But he talks like a gentlemen Like you imagined when you were young Can we climb this mountain?

It took me some years to really discover what this video meant.. The guy cheats, and the video goes in reverse. From him searching for her after she left, to him being caught cheating, to them marrying, to him checking her out, to her getting hired by him and meeting him the first time making the other bar chick jealous. Wonderfully created.

Yes. I think she feels like her life is ruined because she was betrayed by the man she gave herself (her virginity) to. She obviously takes her wedding vows a lot more seriously than her husband, & likely thinks she would rather commit suicide than bear the pain & the shame she feels.

Heather Loughlin I mean, I would like to think that him taking her virginity, which may not even be true, wouldn't be why she would feel so hurt. I consider cheating to be a complete betrayal of trust, and i could imagine that it would be unspeakably painful to experience having the one you love be with somebody else behind your back.

This song was very special to me going through my divorce. The lyrics theme of always thinking you're going to find better or that life is going to go the way you think, but still don't realize the importance of growing up and accepting reality than some idealized fantasy and missing the real message, "more than you'll ever know". She's gone on boyfriend after boyfriend never happy. Me, enjoying my solitude, taking my time with healing and listening to God. 🙏

Abril 2023

True story. Grew up in Ohio, have lived in Texas for decades. I went back, visited the cemetery where my people are buried. On the freeway from there, downtown Cleveland in rear view mirror this song came on. When the line "sometimes you close your eyes and see the place where you used to live" hit me it froze everything in the most profound way. I have never forgotten how hard that line bit me.

I would not say this ranks in the Pantheon of the greatest songs ever, but you are correct, it is sorely underrated. Lyrically it sums up what 98% of all people feel when it comes to the turmoils of realizing the fantasy you have created regarding love, were just that, fantasy.

***** Critically I mean, wasn't well acclaimed (along with the album) and didn't receive many awards
@kylejstevens
@kylejstevens 10 жыл бұрын
john baldwin Led Zeppelin was hardly nominated for any awards during their time. They had one grammy nom for best new artist in '70 but lost to CS&N. Every other award for them has been from 1990 and later, 10+ years after Bonzo's death. Not saying the Killers are as revolutionary as Zep, but the Killers are so underrated for their era. Definitely in my top 5 most important bands of the past 10 years. It seems that most critics just support popular, mainstream music that sells today, and not the actual music that is actually good and influential - new, unique. Give it time, they'll get all their proper recognition.

The Killers imo are underrated but that's what makes them awesome. Sick of all the mainstream crap out there so I'm glad the Killers are still under the radar for most because most of these bands are turned into zombies by the labels to keep releasing radio hits. Shame really because bands like that usually don't last very long and lose most of their loyal followers.
