Tradition and obviously the tourists flocking to see them. That brings in the money. Horses are magnificent, a soldier is old hat, no one will flock to see soldier s guarding.

What is the point to having a guard mounted on a horse standing in these two guard houses? Couldn't the guard be on foot there? These horses are beautiful and magnificent but I often wonder what is the annual cost of maintaining these hundreds of horses along with cleaning the streets after they have passed.

These huge and potentially dangerous animals are made to stand for around an hour whilst hundreds of people touch, pat and stand close to and move around them whilst cameras film them. It is a tourism sideshow and is animal cruelty. Many of these horses can be seen exhibiting behavioural problems and just now we have had two horses racing through London streets injuring and frightening people (5 horses were actually involved) and it could have been potentially so much worse. This is akin to Killer Whales being confined to an Aquarium and made to perform tricks. It needs to be banned or else the horses removed a long way away from where they can potentially harm any adults or worse, small children.
