Synopsis: Gongsun Li, a beautiful commoner, has been studying Kung Fu from her grandfather alongside two senior apprentices ever since she was a little girl. During her youth, she saves a boy named Ying Zheng, who later becomes the King of Qin. Her world is turned upside down when war breaks out amongst the warring states and her grandfather is killed by the Qin army. As a result, Gongsun Li is forced to flee her hometown. Her longtime senior, Jing Kie, is then poisoned for attempting to protect her. In order to obtain the cure for Jing Ke, Gongsun Li chooses to marry the king, Ying Zheng, who is responsible for invading her nation and murdering her grandfather. Soon after, Gongsun Li discovers that she is pregnant with Jing Kie’s child. When Ying Zheng’s discovers Gongsun Li’s pregnancy, he comes to her aid by claiming that he is the father of the child, which deeply moves Gongsun Li. In order to ensure the safety of Gongsun Li and her child, Han Shen, Gongsun Li’s other senior, chooses to become an imperial bodyguard in the palace. Faced with the dangers and perils of life in the palace, Gongsun Li develops into a strong woman and eventually earns people’s respect through her wisdom and kindness.

This king is something else. He finds out the woman that he forced to be his concubine is pregnant and he acts as if it's a betrayal towards him. Then, he puts her and her baby's life in harm's way multiple times, but still expects her to be grateful. I'm bracing myself for this to become a toxic relationship, even if Li does fall in love with him.

You will only see a non chalant look on Li's face everytime. Because she isn't living with him out of choice but force coz she needs to protect the baby & his father. A formal relationship at the best out of compromise. King is fully besotted by her OTOH.

I think this is a very well done drama. The acting is great. The script is intriguing, and the quality is excellent. That being said, his attitude needs a check. This is a classic Romeo and Juliet relationship, where they hardly know anything about each other, making it lust not love. He claims he loves her but then he is very controlling. This is such a toxic relation ship. He wants her to kill the baby, which by the way is cruel in its own right. I mean like for real, we know her character, and he has seen enough of her character to know that she cares deeply for the lives of others and would not kill, or even harm anyone or anything unless she absolutely had to. I mean what mother is going to give up her baby for a "husband" who she doesn't even like, especially when not only is it not said "husband's" baby, but the child of her true love who she can no longer be with because Asshat over here thinks that he can control a person's will solely because he can have them killed or forced into slavery. And I personally refuse to call him her actual husband until they are actually treating each other as such. A marriage should be focused around a mutual bond of love, trust, and faith between people. Now this is not to say that I don't like the drama. I think that the drama is fantastic. It really puts relationships into perspective.

@Madelynn Mosely: I love this drama because it really sucks us in to be seduced and slaps us in the face with reality. I love how Zhang BinBin portrays the dark triad and narcissism. It's an incredibly realistic portrait. I agree with you, it's not about love. It's Stockholms syndrome at best and horrifyingly abusive. I loved the ending. The whole drama is some of my favorite tale of cautions. So good!

1month na syang preggy baka kai king yan nung nalasing sila tas nagkamali ng pinasukan na room c king, baka doon nabuo ung baby. Bilis naman kce nabuntis kung ung nangyari sa kanila ng senior nya nung before sya pumunta sa palace. Dko lang sure. Haha
